Everyone is probably getting super tired of me posting, but I really am trying to get some information on each of the academies. So could someone please give me some info on USAFA? I think it is my second choice, but I have a few years and I want to make sure that I know what I am getting into, and know my options. I had a friend going in the Air Force about to graduate, I think from Norwich, but she disappeared before I could ask her any questions about the Air Force. I thought she was crazy when I found out that she was going in the military a few years ago. But look where I ended up a few years later.

There are other people who can tell you more but because i moved to korea for my senior year i never had a chance to visit air force academy so google, youtube, and the SA fourms are my best friend. You can find a lot.

If you give us specific questions, we can probably help you out more.

Ashleigh,
When you click on Air Force Academy on these forums, look at the second blue bar. All the way on thr right hand side there is a "search this forum" button. You can type in anything you are curious about, and pages of prior threads will appear. I suggest reading as much as you can, and then you can ask specific questions. Also, the threads between the blue bars, labled "stickies" have answers to most of the commonly asked questions.
The folks here are incredibly helpful, but broad general questions often go unanswered. Do some research. Ask a specific question and explain how it pertains to your situation, and you will be amazed at the wealth of information that will follow.
Good luck!

OK, thanks. I haven't had a whole lot of success on the website though, so it will take me a while to figure everything out.

Thanks, I have done some research, but I haven't been able to get a whole lot of info, at least not off of the USAFA website.

Valuable Sources of Information

When my DD announced that she wanted to go to the Air Force Academy I had the uphill battle of learning everything I could in a short amount of time. There are three resources that are wonderful:

1. Air Force Academy website. Click on every tab and ready every sentence. The videos on the Downloads and Videos tab are great.

2. Air Force Academy Candidate Book: How to Prepare, How to Get In, How to Survive by William L. Smallwood

3. Skies to Conquer by Diana Jean Schemo. This author is embedded at the AFA for a period of time after the sex scandel and writes candidly about the day in the life of cadets.

Please consume these three resources.... they are invaluable. You'll either walk away totally jazzed and ready to apply; or know that the AFA isn't going to be your cup of tea.

Good luck.

I did 1 and 2. Loved the AFA Candidate book; very helpful for a candidate to any academy!

Sounds like what I am giving my mom. She is not very interested right now, but when time comes to apply...

I have been on there but we have an old computer with dial-up internet (and a laptop without internet), and I haven't been able to get most of it to load.

I will look at those two. I am leaning towards USMA, but I want to know about all of them before I make any decisions, and I do need to know all of this first. USAFA is almost definitely my second choice, based on what I know so far.

Thanks!

Ashleigh

I HIGHLY recommend the latest edition of the Air Force Academy Candidate Book. It has been a great guide throughout the admissions process.
