OK hard to believe how fast time flies. Our daughter will be a C1C next year, and Orientation seems like yesterday I was sitting in a blizzard on I-25 driving from Denver to Csprings to pick her up from the over-night. We live in the springs now, and I thought I would share some info on Lodging and Dinning.
The Academy will send buses to The Drury, and Academy hotels on Monday morning to pick you up and drop you off. They have a few more stops, and they should be on the page with info about orientation. The intersection the Academy Hotel and Drury are located is just outside the Main Academy Gate on Academy Blvd. It is convenient because Walmart, Famous Daves, McDonald’s, Denny’s and several other Shopping and dinning establishments are within walking distance.
Both hotels are older but in good condition. If you are looking for something cheaper there is a Days-Inn, and Super-8 right next to the Drury.
If you are coming as a family you may want to try the Homewood Suites or Residence Inn located just up the road from the Drury (not walking distance but only about 5 minutes to Drury by car). These Suites have living rooms and kitchens that will make your stay much more pleasant. Additionally if you plan on coming out over Labor Day for Parents weekend I would make reservations NOW, because they will be sold out fast. They were building a really nice Embassy Suites just outside the North Gate, but the construction has stopped there. I am sure by the graduation for 2014 it should be open though.
I will try and snap a few pictures over the next couple days so you can see what these places look like before hand. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
