    Hello,

I know that appointments to the USAFA are being sent out very soon and I had a question about being "academically" qualified.
Currently I am both physically and medically qualified and I have also received a principal nomination from my congressman.
The issue that I am currently worried about though is that if I could be purely disqualified because of my SAT CR score. Even though I have scored very high on my math (700s), I only received a 540 on my CR. In my other academics, I have a 3.95 GPA, all AP courses and I have passed the AP exams.
On another note, I am a Tri-Sport athlete and Captain, ASB VP for two years, and I have been talking to the athletic department for track and field.. just wondering if I could get some more input.
    Thanks!

Oh and I have also applied to USNA and USMMA and the USNA deemed me academically qualified based on my other academical merit.

Assuming that you have not been academically disqualified (unlikely if USNA gave you the thumbs up) and you truly have a principal nomination, then you WILL receive an appointment.

i believe i have heard people say that if you receive a nom you are pretty much academically qualified? good job though...
i have a question about academics as well. will i make myself look bad if i choose to not take AP tests this year? especially since i am taking so many the cost factor is sorta scaring me away

Look at the scores in your online application. It will list your SAT and ACT scores. Do your scores have BRACKETS surrounding it.

    e.g.

    SAT Verbal/Critical Reading: <490>**
    SAT Math: <540>**
    SAT Writing: 450
    ACT English: 27
    ACT Math: 26
    ACT Reading: 30
    ACT SR: 28

If a score is in BRACKETS, then it is TOO LOW and you don't qualify academically. However, like the EXAMPLE I put above, the SAT is NOT QUALIFIED, BUT the ACT IS QUALIFIED. And you only have to be qualified in one or the other.

So, the first question is: Being you only mentioned SAT scores, I'll assume you ONLY TOOK the SAT. So, the question is: Do ANY of your 3 SAT scores have BRACKETS around them? If there are no brackets, then you ARE ACADEMICALLY QUALIFIED. If one or more HAS BRACKETS, then you aren't academically qualified. Look at your application and tell me what it says.

Do you know of an exact date, or is the usual late March/Early April line?

    Questions for I-day

    Hello everyone,

We are not from military family, and I don’t know about Colorado Springs either. I have a lot of questions, but below questions are just for I-day that I cannot find answer from Instructions to Appointees.
Can someone answer for my question below?
    Thanks in advance,

    Delta

    1. On I-day(June 27, 2013) morning, how is the traffic between local hotels and Doolittle Hall? Do I have to expect the AFA Gate traffic?
For example, if my DS report time is 7:00 AM, how early do I have to leave the hotel(if hotel is less than 5 miles from USAFA)?
I made a reservation at Hampton Inn at 7245 Commerce Center Dr.
    2. Are we allowed to getting in AFA through S-Gate or N-Gate? It doesn’t matter?
    3. Where can I park if I drive with my DS?
    4. After saying good bye in front of the ‘Journey Begins’ upstairs, do I have to leave immediatly? Are there any places that I can see my DS at a distance?
    5. On swearing ceremony day morning, normally what time the ceremony start/end? Because, I have to arrange my air-line schedule at Colorado Springs airport.
    6. How long does it take time from USAFA to COS airport on weekday morning around 10AM?

    OKAY...

First, NONE of you know's precisely when appointments will be coming out. How do I know what?

Because I am an ALO and I don't know and when an ALO asks USAFA/RRS about "...when do you see appointments coming out?" They answer with the following:

"Appointments have been going out recently in small numbers; primarily for Principal Nominee's and some recruited athletes that also had excellent overall scores. The bulk of our appointments will be going out later; hopefully in mid-late March or possibly early April, depending upon the cycle process."

Folks...it will do NO good to speculate...it's going to take time. When the word goes out, ALO's and others will hear quickly and then we might be able to post something. In the meantime...and I know (having gone through it personally TWICE and always with my candidates) just how hard it is to hear/see...

    Have patience. :thumb:
