Does anybody know any of the requirements to get in to the rifle team at USAFA? Or the trap and skeet club? Also, what is the rifle team's season? (if they have one) I want to know if i get in to the academy (*crosses fingers*) if i would be able to do lacrosse, and one of the shooting teams/clubs.

Air Rifle and Smallbore Rifle teams

There is an Air/Smallbore rifle team. The season runs from October to March. If you have not shot Air Rifle or Smallbore in High school it will be hard to make the team. They are not setup to train a shooter from scratch. I think there is a Sheet/Trap Club team. If you have any questions on the Air/Smallbore Rifle team just let me know my son is on the Rifle Team

I think the trap/skeet club has been inactive for several years. (Either that, or they keep a really low profile...)

The Combat Shooting Team does 3-gun competitions. We should have that running this year.

is the combat shooting team hard to get in to? And what sort of rifles do you use? Since it is called "combat shooting" i'm assuming you use assault rifles, presumably the ar-15?

We use AR-15s, Kimber 1911s, and Mossberg 590s.

AR-15s are not really assault rifles. They are semi-auto only, while assault rifles are select fire (like the M-16 and M-4).

Somewhat. We are not sure how many are going to apply. Things are in flux right now.

Draw 6 four inch dots, and number them. Have a friend call out some sequence like "Two in the 4, one in the 5, three in the 2." Then shoot that. Try standing at 25 yds, or 7 yds for pistol.

alright! sounds like i should prolly buy a pistol also to practice with. I have a multitude of shotguns, and seeing as most shotguns a primarily the same, it shouldn't matter what kind i practice with. What sort of practice should i do with a shotgun to prepare for the shotgun portion?

Most 3-gun shotgun drills are stationary targets, so speed is actually the dominating factor. Quick reloads are where most people lose time.

(However, as the Combat Shooting Team, we tend to work less with shotguns than the other two. The military simply doesn't use shotguns that much, in comparison to assault rifles and pistols.)

As I said before, much of our team is in flux. We do not have specifics on many things right now.

Alright, cool! What's causing the flux? Not enough funding? Not enough people?

The team is relatively new. Our leadership is changing this year. Also, there was an issue that is being worked on that has put the team on hold for the moment.
