Hello everyone. Congrats to everyone who got accepted to the seminar recently. I unfortunately got placed on the "wait list". What are the odds that I actually get moved to get a slot? Are there any? Can I do anything to help my chances at this point? Any info helps a lot! Thanks y'all!

My mother and I believe I was waitlisted becuase I have already been to USAFA for a visit and I indicated that on my application. The goal of Summer Seminar is to give the Academy experience who havent been and or might not get the opportunity otherwise. Keep stuff like that in mind. Spots will for sure open up, don't worry. I WROTE THEM A LETTER asking if there was anything that I could improve on so I am still waiting to hear back. Just be patient and pray if thats your thing. Good luck and I hope to see you there!!!!!!!!!!!!

SS is a recruiting tool for the Academies to attract highly-competitve candidates. DS went last summer. Most of the kids were engineering-STEM kids with off-the-charts test scores and ECAs.

    Norfolk,

I beg to differ. My test scores are not off the charts and my ECA's are not mind-blowing. I was offered a spot on the wait list. It doesn't take superstars, just hardworkers and that is one thing that I am.

I have no idea what gets you in or not but DS has visited numerous times, his sister is a C3C, so I don't think a previous visit precludes you from summer seminar.

A previous "unofficial" visit won't preclude you from summer seminar. For example, if you drive up there to see your sister, it won't count against you. However, if you go there as part of the Diversity Visitation Program, you won't be able to go there as part of SS.

It was an official high school atudent tour that I had to achedule through their website. It included an admissions brief and a tour led by an academy student ambassador. I indicated this on my application. It wasnt unofficial.

I agree with Norfolk63 as I recently got accepted, and I am 100% positive that my high test scores and ECAs played a role in their decision. Otherwise there is not much for them to use to choose one candidate over another. (I can share my scores and ECAs with you for comparison over PMs)

Otherwise, good luck to all of you for the second round of SS officers!

I got accepted to attend the SS at USAFA this summer regardless of my low ACT test scores. My extra curricular activities, community service hours, essays, and my leadership compensated for the low ACT scores. Regardless, don't stress If you don't get in. Use this as motivation to make your application 10x better so they can't deny you. Best of luck.

Congrats to all who got accepted. Keep trying to those who got waitlisted or who weren't accepted.

However, no one can't divine or guess why you were accepted or not accepted. You may have good academic scores or it could be other factors such as you were an underrepresented minority (Korean-Americans are not an underrepresented minority. A Korean-American friend of my DS directly asked an Admissions official, and he said that they get more than enough Korean-Americans applicants) or from an underrepresented geographically area or other unknown factors (compelling essay, etc).

Don't look back, just look forward.

    There's always a chance. 0%, 100%, 50%, other integer, who knows?

I don't think it has to do with test scores, I had a 35 ACT composite, but was flat-out denied, not even wait-listed.

While a 35 on the ACT is an absolutely amazing score, just test scores alone won't get you into an academy and I would assume the same for summer seminar.

My scores were not off the charts (1820 SAT) and I was accepted. I have lots of accomplishments with my Sea Cadet unit outside of school though (honor graduate, cadet of the year, etc.). I really believe it depends on your geographic location and ethnicity- those two things count for a lot, not just high test scores for sure.

I did not mean to imply that I had poor extracurriculars. I am a caucasian female from a competitive California district and my top choice is actually USMA (I was accepted to SLE). I also applied late compared to most applicants because I didn't know it opened in December.

Well congrats on SLE and good luck with USMA. Still haven't heard from them yet for SLE.

Sorry, I just reread that and realized how completely snobbish I sounded. I hope you get a spot at SLE and SS!

I flat out was denied by SS even though I thought I had very competitive test scores, extracurricular, and leadership positions. I was very disappointed to see that I was not even wait-listed, but I guess that means I just have to work even harder in the upcoming months! Any suggestions?

Has anyone who was waitlisted heard anything concerning their status changing yet?

Those accepted have until 2/27 to accept or decline so I would think those waitlisted will not hear until after then.
