USAFAPS Appointment for 2014!

Someone set up a club for flying lessons at the Prep School this year, however I did not participate. So I'm certain it's possible, but I don't know details on it.

No Appointment, possibly Prep

That's pretty close to what I had.

ACT English: 27
ACT Math: 27
ACT Reading: 28
ACT SR: 26

Honestly, I love it here. Some people hate it, but those people are missing out. I have made great friends and we find ways to make the best of everything.

Here's just a glimpse of the fun stuff that's happened in the past week...
My friends and I tossed around a baseball today which ended up turning into a snow wrestling match.
We replaced the men's and women's bathroom signs in the squad to confuse people.
I started writing a song for the Prep School talent show.
One of the squads here made a Harlem Shake video. (http://youtu.be/WTPcJCeg3CA link for reference)
Some people went snowboarding this weekend. (My friends and I are going skiing next weekend to celebrate the end of finals for this quarter.)

It isn't always fun, but don't cause trouble and live for the weekend and you'll be fine.

LFry94,

When I took my ACT, I received a 34 in English, 36 in Reading, 29 in Math, and 30 in Science for a Composite Score of 32.
I was recently told however that I did not get an appointment to the AFA. There was no mention of Prep School in the letter; should I take this as a positive sign? I know they look at much more than just ACT/SAT scores, but based on what I have read I think I have a fairly good shot.

Any thoughts?

I don't know what to think. I have not heard of many people getting into the prep school with higher than a 30 ACT. You may be looked at for a Falcon Foundation Scholarship (You can read more about that here: http://www.usafa.org/falconfoundation) which is awarded to candidates that the USAFA wants but doesn't have room for. Since they didn't say you weren't being looked at for a prep school scholarship, I'd take that as a good sign.

Did you guys get notified that you were not being appointed to the Academy? If so, how long was it after you heard you that you were appointed to the prep school?

Last year I received my TWE in early March. I then received my Prep School appointment on April 18th.

Thanks, I got my TWE on Wednesday but I seem to be a good fit for the Prep School so I'm hopeful that it will work out.

My DD recieved her TWE last week, but like so many others is holding out hope for a prep school or FF scholarship offer. I was wondering though, does a candidates congressional district have any impact when prep school and FF scholarships are handed out? ie could being from AZ-06 help or hurt her in any way? I would guess that everyone who recieves a nomination without an appointment are all lumped in the same bucket, but I've been wrong on alot of my other assumptions so thought I'd ask. Thanks!

I don't really know. It's an admissions area that isn't really talked about. What I do know is that they want a wide range of diversity, and there are probably about 2-3 students from each state in the prep school.

I'm from Kansas, and we have four districts. This is the break down for my state:
KS-01: 1 C/C
KS-02: none
KS-03: 1 C/C
KS-04: Me and 1 other C/C

That's about all the information I can give you.

Just my personal assessment, but I believe the 'higher' your representative is on the food chain and where that representative ranked you, helps a bit as well. Wish i could source where I got this, I forgot, but say you apply for three representatives. If say one doesn't accept you, a district representative ranks you 1st but a state representative ranks you say fourth you want, i think, to have the district representative as your rep. However is the district and state rank you the same, or close, you want the state representative. Just my guess.

So on a more happy approach, who can I expect to see at the prep school!

Keep in mind I'm a prior and have been told things are quite different between directs and priors but I received notice on April 3rd that I was not selected for the academy and then received an appointment to the prep school on the 19th of april.

FYI, I'm a Direct

About a month till I heard I was offered an appointment to P-School; AFA Denied April, offered P-School May. You'll receive emails to check your portal, there it'll state whether or not you've been appointed.

Ya just started working on my orders, going to work more on them when i get back from 'lunch', I work nights. Probably will get my orders in hand end of next week... fun stuff.

I go to my initial briefing with a personnelist to get my orders drafted. Found some interesting tidbits to save me money (Like in the JFTR, your able to send your HHG to any Conus location being that USAFA nor the Prep School allow HHG to be there.) Hoping to get my orders by the end of next week, after that. FIGMO

I still have half my virtual out processing checklist left. My pre final out is on June 18th, then final out on hopefully the 27th. Then go on leave to MN till the 9th then fly to Colorado Springs. Is anybody else getting their HHG shipped back to their home? Or have shipped before? I need to know if I have to prepack my stuff or if the movers pack it for me, my TMO office is kind of lazy on details -.-"
