A young man who interns at my workplace is starting at the USAFA prep school next week. He has been trying to find out how to have third-party scholarship money that he was awarded (the check is apparently made out directly to him) applied to his account to help cover the cost of uniforms, books, etc. but hasn't had luck talking to anyone at the prep school who can provide him with much information. He has been told that he needs to work through the US Treasury department. Has anyone had experience with this? If so, any suggestions for a good contact person?

I'm double-posting this on both the Prep School forum and the USAFA forum in hopes of a response.

I am not an expert and do not have experience with the prep school, but my DD (current basic cadet) was awarded several 3rd party scholarships and was told to get them written out directly to her if at all possible. If not, they need to be written out to the US Treasury. This information was provided to me from the Cadet's pay office at USAFA. You may want your intern to contact this office or the equivalent at the prep school. Also, since it is written out to him, he can just deposit it in his academy bank account that he should have or will be setting up for his direct pay deposit while at the prep school. I hope this helped some.

Thanks so much. I'll pass the information along.
