USMA Class of 2017 Acceptance Thread

During my overnight visit, an admissions officer told me roughly 900 appointments will be going out in this first wave.

If it is 900 on the first wave, that eats up my 400 left to go swag. I was figuring 500 on the first wave.

The post on the official West Point facebook page states that this first wave includes 500 appointment notifications for the Class of 2017 being mailed later this week.

Guessing as to numbers is really going to make folks crazy, but I'd say there will be additional waves until the projected class size is reached. If you are lucky enough to receive an appointment in the first wave, Congratulations!!! (Hopefully my daughter will be in that wave). If not, then there will be additional appointments, likely from MAPS and the NWL, so don't give up hope....

Wishing everyone who has shared the journey from last Jan. when applicaitons were filed for SLE through today the best of luck. Hope that we are lucky enough to see you all at R-Day!! (And some of you old timers, at graduation for our firstie)!

It really has been a long and challenging journey. I can't believe it's been more than a year since my DS first applied, then applied and went to SLS; sought and finally attained a nomination; the several rounds of SAT testing; the rush to complete his Eagle project and complete his Eagle rank; and on and on. I echo the sentiments above and wish everybody good luck next week, and I hope my DS is along side your well-deserved kids come July 1st.

When I was on my overnight visit I also heard about 800-900 will be going out the first wave. If you notice, that picture is just from yesterday. I am sure they packaged more appointments today.

Yaa... They have barely given any out. Soldiers and Athletes only as much as I've seen. And USMAPS is in the "normal" wave. They still have the whole class to fill. And the majority will be filled in the next week.

Folks, please take them out their word. They tell the truth, but the truth may change... The latest is that 500 are going out this week; more in waves over the next few weeks and months. I know everyone is hoping for 900 NOW, but they need room to wait for applications that are being finalized by the closing date of Feb. 28, and medical waivers of kids they have an interest in, plus the MAPS kids. On the flip side, if you're not in the 500, you'll appreciate that there is plenty of room remaining in the next month or so. We are hoping to be in the first 500 - so the wait is over, but if there's an empty mailbox, we have hope for a spot in the remaining envelopes to be prepared.

Actually, the post does not say 500 will be sent out in the first wave. The 500 came from the Facebook post where a photo shows 500 envelopes being readied for mailing later this week. It did not say these were the only ones being prepared to be mailed this week, it also did not see more would be coming this week. It simply was a picture depicting 500 being readied. All indications are that the vast majority of offers will go out this week. I just hope one of the offers mailed, no matter how many are mailed is addressed to me - though I wish everyone could get an offer.

The Envelopes!!

I had to take a look at the pic with all of those envelopes one more time. Then it hit me. Each envelope has a story, a culmination of half a life times worth of work for some. Remember all of those drives to Scout meetings, all those camp outs and eating burnt or undercooked food. Or, how about clapping and wiping tears as our child received their Eagle/Gold Star Award. Picking up our kids from the sports practices and hearing as soon as they get into the car, “I’m hungry.” How about the feeling of victory when our child’s team winning a game and wondering what to say after a loss. All of that nagging to get home work done and those late nights of frustration, “I’m not getting this!” Then that broad smile, “All A’s this semester, again.”

And one day your “star” announces they had an epiphany, a thought that grew like an oak tree, you dream about tying a swing to, “I want to attend West Point, I want to serve.”

Remember many will gloat in happiness when they hold their golden ticket; there are two to three others who will receive a TWE with a “QNS” letter enclosed. Not that they weren’t good enough but sorry we just don’t have enough seats.

Your character will be forged though adversity.

To all of the 3Q’d with a nom applicants hold your heads high, your future is extremely bright!

Good Luck!!!
