I am a hopeful candidate for USMA class of 2016. Hoping these forums can give me insight into both the experience and whether West Point is best out of the service academies for my major. I want to do something related with physics and am unsure which branch will offer me the most career wise. I am the classic definition of a nerd with a twist, much like many military academy members, I work out frequently as well as study hard. 33 overall on the ACT and 2110 on the SAT. Going to SLS in three weeks (Can't wait!), Boys State (mock-government program in VA) in June, and a month long stay in Lynchburg for the Governors School for Mathematics, Science, and Technology. I will graduate with 9 AP classes and tests under my belt(hopeful for all 5s, but some 4s are inevitable). By senior year I will probably be in the top 10 of my class out of 518. President of Mu Alpha Theta for two years (National Mathematics Honors Society), Member of the year for MAT sophomore year, member of NHS for two years, member of key club next year, 100+ hours of community service, and only one year of school athletics (wrestling). Although on paper my athletics look weak, I make sure to get to the gym three times a week in addition to runs. Unfortunately my tough scholastic options have left me with lots of homework and parents who don't allow me to participate in sports where I have less than an hour to study for four tests the next day and do 3 hours worth of homework.....

But enough complaining. I basically just am asking which of the academies would lead into a career that would best suit my interests in Physics and Mathematical sciences?

Porque?

If you don't mind, might I ask you why you'd rank USAFA and USNA as the top 2?

Thanks

Porque

I do not have direct experience with all of the academies. However, in my opinion, the qualifications and interests of the op are tangential to the mission of #3,4,& 5 and might not be utilized by those services. USAFA and USNA have a greater possibility to lead, in my opinion, to careers that more fully utilize op's qualifications and interests.
For others with different qual & interests, for example--sea duty, then their ranking would be different. The ranking I gave was for op from the little info given. It was not a ranking of the academies.

Welcome to the forums!

Which week will you be attending? I'll be going to session 1! (I can't tell what week would "in 3 weeks" be.

Oh, and by the way - it is "Por que?" when asking and "Porque" when answering, in the most simple form. Just a heads up ;)

Por Que?

I will be going to the first session as well. And I'm out of practice with Spanish, haven't had the time to take it recently due AP classes. Being an overachiever entails that I get no fun classes in my schedule whatsoever.... But it'll be worth it later

Don't worry.

I reside in Brazil (born in Boston).

Going to West Point is good if you want a Career in the Army

I am sure the other Academies are good for Careers in their prospective services. (MMA open to all pretty much).

I would agree that Navy probably has the most use for pure Math and Physics in their career fields. (Their Nuke Program)
