My son has applied to 4 service academies and had an interview with a representative from USNA, USAF, USMMA. He has nominations to USNA, USMMA and USMA. No one has ever interviewed him in regards to USMA. Is this common or him applying later than most show some kind of disinterest on his part? He has a 31 on his ACT, all county cross country, co captain cross country 2 years. 2 year state participant. NHS, student rep 9,11,12 , National Youth Leadership etc....He contacted admissions and they say his application is complete. Thanks for any help

I never had an interview and I got an LOA in September and accepted my appointment a couple weeks ago. No worries!

There may not be a Field Force Representative (FFR) in your area. In your portal under "Liaisons" do you have a congressional district coordinator?

No interview here either. DS has a nom. for USMA, but the only interviews he's had were for the nomination. I really wish WP had something like the BGO, because my DS does better in person than on paper. YOu really are more than the sum of your accomplishments. But, oh well, I guess that s what referral letters are for.

There is a BGO-like position called FFR (Field Force Representative) however it plays a less prominent role for USMA than ALO/BGO does for their SAs. I believe if there is not one in your region, there is no interview and consequently it doesn't hurt your application to not have one. I have heard that many areas are hard-pressed to fill FFR positions, so that's another factor.

I really don't think the FFR interview is very important at all. We were told just that by a WP RC. I suspect that if a candidate says something terrible the FFR will report that, and it could hurt chances of admission, but don't think the FFR interview gets scored.

My son has a liaison officer for USMA, USAFA, and USNA. All did interviews. All have corresponded to some extent. The BGO for USNA is excellent. Very responsive and accommodating. The officer for USAFA is pretty good too, but takes a while to respond, and I thing he mostly goes through the motions, but he has answered all of my son's questions, even if not right away. The FFR for WP is by far the least impressive. He rarely responds if sent an email, and has not always provided correct information.

I think the Interviews are for the candidates benefit, and the benefit of the candidates family. It is mostly to provide info, and to perhaps confirm that the candidate and family understand what they are getting into. I wouldn't worry about not getting an interview; unless you need to be talked to about what you are getting into.

USMA does not require a Field Force Interview, however, it can strengthen your file. This is my second year applying so I've become quite familiar with the process.
