An alternative to LITS point of view here. As an alum and Dad of VMI I can attest to the general unpleasantness of life at these schools for large swaths of your 4th class year and on- BUT that is true of Everything in life. Fun is all relative and frankly if you're not having fun then you are in the wrong place. Would you be having more fun in Las Vegas or Disneyworld than you will at USMA? For any 4 day period of time sure- but that's not a valid comparison. As long as you aren't equating fun with just pure carefree luxury, you will have fun even in the depths of your 4th class year because there is a lot of enjoyment in meeting and beating challenges with your best friends, in beating the system occasionally and not getting caught (eek); (and sometimes it's fun even if you get caught- just cause you did it!); in getting an unexpected break when you expected to sweat a class or a military duty; in being 20 years old and convinced that you and your buddies are the kings of the world and the kids not at your school are just too obtuse to know.
In short- if you are meant to be there- you will enjoy it which is the definition of fun in my book. Maybe it won't be more fun than sex cool, but certainly more than going to "Whatsammata U" or "Frostbite Falls State" if this the right place for you to be. It's not all drudgery . On the flip side There will however be periods where your life just bites- it's part of the package. True of everything and everywhere . I lived in and loved Hawaii- but there were times when it just was crappy; and a friend of mine has a kid working at DisneyWorld now- even Mickey has a bad day occasionally!
