My Understanding is that USMAPS is designed to bring applicants who are deficient academically up to USMA admission standards. However, to be considered for USMAPS, you have to apply for admission to USMA first. But USMA won't consider you for admission unless you are academically competitive. My DD has marginal ACT scores and, so far, her portal says "initial evaluation pending". She would benefit from the prep school, but it doesn't look like she will get to the second step of the USMA admission process. She is not a recruited athlete . She will be taking the ACT again in SEP. If she doesn't get to the second step of the USMA application process, is USMAPS a no go as well? I posted this on the Prep School Forum as well.

USMAPS purpose is to prepare candidates for admission to West Point who meet one of West Point Admissions class composition goals (Athlete, Prior Service Soldier, Minority, Female, Leader, Scholar).

West Point will screen candidates who do not meet initial cut offs in certain areas (not released). I recommend that you write your DD's admissions officer and ask them how they evaluate your DD's file. Generally, they screen candidates who show risk in many categories, not just one. Be prepared for that. Still, doesn't hurt to be the squeaky wheel.

Understand, though, the admissions officers see a lot of files and they have a pretty good idea of what risks to let through the initial screening process. If they decide not to let your DD's file through, it is a benefit for USMA and for your DD as it doesn't give false hope. Generally, they will give a recommendation of where the candidate should improve for reconsideration.

Typical target population for USAMAP in recent years has been first three.
