Hello all, hope the summer has been nice.

I applied to KP and was on hold forever (so long that it was almost a relief to be rejected) and I want to reapply because that is what I want. I just started as a Sophomore at an accredited 4 year engineering school (I'm a transfer because I have a bazillion community college credits).

This semester I am taking: Calc II (retaking it, I barely passed last semester), Engineering Design I, Urban Art (required core class), Engineering Design (AutoCAD/drafting), and an engineering design project to redesign the steam drier for a model nuclear power plant, and add failure scenarios to the operation of the plant. (I had an internship at the school when it was built and was the designer of the operation system of the plant.).

My next semester classes are going to be Multivariable calc, calc based physics, and some other things according to the course outline.
That is 15 credits...

My SAT scores were 640M, 580W, and 670CR.

Ever since I was rejected I can't stop thinking what can I do better. Also, I don't give up, and giving up on a dream isn't something I could fathom.

My Dad, is a KP grad, and he supports me reapplying.

Since I'm gonna go for it a second time I figure I know the drill a whole lot better now...

One issue I have is that I didn't do very well this spring in Calc II and physics II... I'm not going to make excuses (it's ultimately my fault) but there were circumstances way beyond my control that really messed up the semester... And honestly, given what happened I'm surprised I did as well as I did.

Any suggestions on how to word that... I mean what happened basically caused me to live on my own for a year...

Finally, I don't really play a sport... which I know can be seen as an issue of teamwork etc... any suggestions on what I can do to up my bonafides?

Thanks all!

I think you probably have a lot of options when it comes to sports...even if you haven't been particularly "athletic" thus far in your life. Just off the top of my head:

1. Do you have an opportunity to participate in any intramural sports at school?
2. Can you start an intramural program between clubs at the school that don't typically field a team (engineering and math clubs and organizations).
3. Martial arts (including MMA training, fencing, etc.).
4. Join a community running club and participate in 5k running events.
5. Join a community swimming club and compete.
6. Join a range and enter shooting events (either guns or archery...but equipment costs for this can get kinda high).
7. Find 3 friends and join a bowling league.
8. Investigate club sports at your school and try to join one...even to train.
9. Find a gym and investigate competitive weightlifting or competitive crossfit.
10. Join an adult league sport via your county sports and recreation department...they never turn anyone away if you are willing to just enter a "player pool."

There are probably a lot of other things you could do as well.

Our ds did a sport freshman year HS only. But he was an Eagle Scout, attended Badger Boys State (every state has a Boys State and Girls State) and was committed to the Theater and Music program in HS all four years. Also was President of the International Thespian Society-elected by his peers. Get yourself in a leadership position and stay committed to it. Eagle Scout counts even to or more (depending on who you talk to) than being a Team Captain.Get as much help as you can with Calculus and Physics. Working your tail off now and setting up your time management skills will pay off and your world after KP will be your oyster! Go for it!
