KINGS POINT, N.Y. -On Wednesday evening, the United States Merchant Marine Academy wrestling squad picked up a whopping victory against the United States Coast Guard Academy, 45-4, and improved Kings Point's record in the series vs. USCGA to 3-4. In New London, Conn., the Mariners also defeated Southern Maine, 42-15. :thumb:

USMMA won a stellar nine of the 10 weight classes versus Coast Guard.

In the 125-pound class, freshman Patrick Graham (Jamestown, N.C.) won by forfeit, while in the 133-class, senior Jordan Alfaro (Fayetteville, N.C.) won a 6-2 decision over Josh Gerry.

Juniors James Beshada (South River, N.J.) and Martin Bell (Eaton Rapids, Mich.) each pinned their opponents in the 141- and 149-classes, respectively. Beshada took 2:49 to pin Doug Ricketts, while Bell notched a quick 0:53 on Angel Serrano.

In the 157-division, senior Dan Twito (Cedar Falls, Iowa) recorded a 2-0 decision over Andy Snyder.

The only loss for Kings Point came in the 165-pound weight class when rookie Jordan Higa (Black Diamond, Wash.) lost a major decision to Lucas Taylor, 10-0.

Senior Scott Lowe (Euclid, Ohio) bested Will Stark for a major decision, 11-2, in the 174-class, while fellow senior Justin Diesel (Minisink Valley, N.Y.) pinned Greg Bredariol (2:55) in the 184-pound weight class.

Junior Erik Schott (Paris, Ohio) had a technical fall over Max Walker, 15-0, in the 197-pound division. Senior Judd Connell (Hastings, Minn.) rounded out the impressive action for the Mariners as he pinned John Manganiello (0:52) in the heavyweight class.

Complete results of the dual versus Southern Maine are not yet available.

Head Coach Greg Ilaria and the Mariners return to the mats on Saturday when they travel to Westminster, Md. for a Centennial Conference Tri-Match at McDaniel College.
