USNA 2017 Mailbox Stalkers Club

Just got a letter from Pensacola saying that I haven't been selected for the NROTC Scholarship. It'd be nice to have that scholarship as Plan B, but as long as they choose the right guys, then I'm happy :)
April cannot possibly come any sooner, can it??

Sorry that your plan A didn't go through. :frown:

Yea... April is going to take forever to get here. Especially when I check the mailbox everyday, dodmerb twice, my portal twice, email and this site multiple times a day. Luckily I get distracted by AP chem, AP Physics and Calc. Without those classes, I'd have nothing to think about other than the Academy. :yllol:

What about TWE's? Would they be going out at this stage in the process, or do those all come out closer to 4/1-4/15?

My son got his today. He had only a Presidential nom. He seemed to appreciate that USNA didn't keep him in suspense - now he can focus on his other schools.

Still stalking the mailbox

I am still stalking the mailbox everyday. Hoping and praying for good news. I'm always thankful when I don't find a TWE in the box.

With the 8 inches of snow that dumped on us, we got cheated out of a mail day. Oh, well. Hopefully it will melt enough for the mail to run tomorrow.

BGO told DS that so far one of his candidates got an appointment and three others received rejections but DS is still in play. Doesn't this mean that it is over because the Congressman can only get one candidate into usna this year? Or am I missing something?

Not necessarily. Read one of the threads on Congressional Nominations. Also, are all of the candidates for your BGO in the same district? The way district lines run, he could represent more than one Congressional district.

An appointment is still possible. The fact he is "still in play" is good. First, each MOC can have 5 cadets at one time at each SA, so some times they have two appointments in one year. Second, qualified candidates without an appointment go into the national pool with the top scoring ones receiving appointments. Third, I agree with PM3 that the BGO may have candidates from multiple districts or from the same district but with other nominations such as Presidential or Senatorial. So it's not over until it's over.

Thank you for your prompt replies. Very good points. Am doubtful about the districting based on what we know of the BGO's territory, however, the nomination source question provide some ray of hope. At this point, it would appear that, for the time being at least, "no news is good news." Interesting test of one's intestinal fortitude to be sure.

Finally...glad the post office hasn't quit on Saturdays! His BFE landed today and mom and I ran it to him pronto. "Oh what a night..."

Such uncomical relief!

Congrats! Love hearing about these joyful moments! :thumb:

Thanks for sharing! :beer1:

Still anxiously waiting. Being a college student, all I can hear is what my parents know back home.

Do all MOCs call to let you know if you have an appointment? It's mid-March, and we still don't know whether I have a BFE being sent or the dreaded TWE.

EDIT: Are you able to check your application status online? I know you're able to look at your overall application online, but are you able to check your status on whether or not you recieved an appointment or not?

Thanks!

sircando...you cannot look on your candidate online file to see if you have been accepted. I saw somewhere reply a few months ago that you can on the DODMERB account...but we never saw that (and frankly we stopped checking once the documents arrived in the mail). It is my understanding that most nomination sources are told a week or so before the academy mails out your acceptance folder, that is how my DS was informed, and the folder came about 10 days later in the mail. I imagine some appointees do not get the call from thier nomination source, but that is what generally happens. The admissions are rolling and my son received a call from his Congressman of the good news within 2 weeks of his application file being completed (the Blue and Gold Interview was the last thing he did...he did not want to waste the officers time if he did not receive a nomination, and so he waited.) But I think there is no set time between when all the stuff happens...it can be different for every candidate. Good luck to you...I know this is a nervous time for you and your family!

Would be interested to hear if any of the appointees show a change in their DODMERB status?? Congrats to all whose wait is over and best of luck to the rest!

dhabs,

Funny you should mention, yes! Crazy.

DODMERB went from DQ (shoulder - waiver granted) to two remedial overnight:

1. Ear wax ?!!?
2. Spinal flexibility (failed to touch his toes during initial)

We scrambled to get appointments < week, letters with their instructions to a tee and FAX'd/mailed overnight.

What I find frustrating? These two issues were never mentioned during initial DODMERB query and could have easily been remedied six months ago. According to our admissions counselor at USNA - she's never seen this happen, especially AFTER appointment.

Denmark? Whatever...he's holding an appointment

Is there a connection between a positive change in DODMERB status and a forthcoming appointment at this point in the admissions process?

Absolutely. While a DODMERB positive change does not guarantee or even inkle at a forthcoming appointment in and of itself, there are NO BFEs made available to candidates with pending medical problems.

Don't read too much into it beyond progess and vastly superior news to a negative change on DODMERB status.

I am a 3Q'd candidate and have been on a CVW but still haven't received a BFE or TWE. As the month is coming to an end does that also bring bad news to those of us who have heard no news or is there still hope? My BGO says that my chances for appointment are fairly good but still I can't help but worry...

Same question...

My son is in the same boat (well, probably - he's never heard for sure that he's 3Q. How did you find out?) He had to go ahead and accept a scholarship for his Plan B school when he hit that deadline last week. Now we're all going to be out of town for a week with the mail being held at the PO... I'm sure he'll be frantic by the time we get back!:frown:
