My son received his USNA nomination on the 12-23, by phone. He mailed his 1 semester college transcripts before the end of the year, updated ACT score, but his CIS has yet to change.

We realize the MOC may not have notified USNA, but how long does it take after break for the system to be updated? He was hoping to be reviewed soon, but with his info. not updated yet, he probably won't be.

Also - Dodmerb has his status as follows:

Agency: ' US Merchant Marine Academy
    Admission Status: Offer Extended
    Admission Status Change Date: 25-JUN-2009
Current Medical Status: Qualified (as of 25-AUG-09 )

    Agency: ' US Naval Academy
    Admission Status: In Process
    Admission Status Change Date: 4-AUG-2009
Current Medical Status: Qualified (as of 25-AUG-09 )

The funny thing is he decided a couple months ago not to complete his USMMA app and it shows on his candidate page DENIED.

Any thoughts or suggestions for him? He doesn't want to call yet, but you know the frustration when waiting on info. to update.

I am also a college candidate, and I recieved an email from an admissions examiner stating that "college candidates will not be reviewed until late January or early February 2010", so I wouldn't start worrying until at least mid January.

    Best of Luck!

It can take a few weeks for CGO to update the system. What you are seeing is not atypical. In addition, college students are evaluated separately from high school students and after the first of the year so candidates have an opportunity to submit their first semester college grades. If you do not see a CIS update by the first of February have your son call his RD.

Thanks for responding. He called the other day and his transcripts were received late last week, and CIS has been updated as of today.

Still confused about the Dodmerb, but it seems there are a few individuals that are seeing the same information. I'm trying not to drive myself crazy with this stuff, as he was waitlisted last year and didn't find out until the middle of May that he didn't get it. At least he has a Nomination this year, and he feels really good about that. We were worried because we moved from AZ to TX, and the competition here is fierce!

    Thanks again!

I don't know if this is out of the ordinary, but I knew about my nomination BEFORE my congressman notified by logging onto the CIS...
Does anyone know if any status changes happen on CIS once an appointment has been extended? Or does nothing change? (in which case, I guess I will just sit tight and wait for a call from my congressman...)

My son's CIS in no way reflects his appointment (which he got in the mail Dec 21st). It also never showed his LOA. However, the Dodmerb site (as TXUSNAMOM showed above) reflected his LOA as soon as he got it (we didn't think to check until a few days later so I'm not sure if it showed up there first) and he saw the "Offer extended" there for USNA a week earlier (Dec 14). So you may want to watch there, but as far as I can tell, the CIS doesn't help.

Oh, and incidentally, my son found out about his nomination on the CIS too before he was notified about it.

My daughter received her nomination letter from the Congressman about 2 weeks before it appeared on CIS. However, CIS was updated with the Senator's nomination about a week before she received the letter from the Senator. No consistancy... I guess every MOC is different.

Son received letter from Congressman Dec 18 ('08). His candidate page was updated Christmas Day. So, obviously there is some action during the holidays!

Remember, Congressman do not have to tell Academies until late January. Also, there are a record number of applications this year.

So hard to be patient. Those appointments will be rolling out in earnest soon!

My son received an email from his Congressman's liaison regarding his nomination. She informed him that his MOC nominated less then 10 candidates to USNA, and that he should contact admissions of the good news.

She also said, she was notifying the academies of the nominees today. My son is reluctant to contact admissions, thinking they would be annoyed with his phone call. As an impatient parent that I am, I'm nagging him to call.

Any advice? Should he call or no? Advice from the BGO's would be helpful.

    Thanks everyone!

    Offer Extended?

I am also wondering what the status updates on the DoDMERB site indicate.
    Mine say the following:

Agency: US Naval Academy SubAgency: NALOA
    Admission Status: Offer Extended
    Admission Status Change Date: 7-JAN-2010

I haven't received an LOA, however I'm overseas and mail takes a little longer to get here. I did receive a letter saying I was scholastically qualified but I highly doubt that it was an LOA. Any ideas if offer extended definitely means LOA or if it just means that I have been placed in the regular pool of applicants?

From what I've heard from others with LOA's, what your seeing on DODMERB does indicate that you were offered an LOA to USNA as of 7 January--CONGRATS to you!

I agree that everyone I've talked to that it means you've gotten an LOA. If you've received a nomination, then the entire appointment should be on its way soon! Congrats!

Thank you all for your replies! I received a nomination from my congressman but still have to submit my medical forms to DoDMERB. Living overseas has proved to be a real pain in terms of medical exam. They wanted me to travel to another country in Europe to get my exam done but instead I saw several civilian doctors.

Does anyone know how hard it is to obtain a waiver for eyesight (not too bad - 20/50 both eyes) if you have a nomination and LOA?

Chris - if you haven't made it over to the Dodmerb board on this forum, head there next. For the most part, LOA's and medical aren't linked, but the person to talk to is Larry Mullen, the Deputy Director of Dodmerb. If you go to that board you can find his email (or it's in his signature of any of the many, many threads he's replied to). Send him the last 4 of your SSN, name, and the info and he'll be ready and willing to help you out.

Edited to add the email: Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil

The notification on the DoDMERB site doesn't necessarily signal an LOA. When my RD told me that I'd received an appointment over the phone, he said something about how that I now had a nom, it completed my LOA and the letter was on it's way. I was surprised because I'd never been informed of an LOA, and when he rechecked my file he realized that I'd never received one - it was just a straight-up appointment. I have the same notification on my DoDMERB status page.

But either way, it means good things. Congrats ;).

    CIS Question - Nomination Source

Nomination states Congressman/Senator 2. Does the "Senator 2" mean anything other than there are 2 Senators for every state.

Likely, one senator from your state is Senator 1 and the other is Senator 2.

Thank you, makes sense especially as senator 1 in our state has more tenure than senator 2

    HELLLPPP!!

Can someone advise on the proper way to update awards/ activites on a candidates page? Worried that e-mails have not reached the regional director, is there any way to confirm updates sent were added to application? Such as awards/achievements, etc? Thanks!!
