USNA Company Assignment 2017

If you are not there for I-Day have your Mid ask anyone on Stribling Walk and they will give your DD/DS a phone to forward their address. We are all family. I thought 28 was the best! Sorry Memphis I didn't know you already mentioned that,

Just remember to bring a drink a sandwich and and a tabelcloth for them to sit on. No grass stains on Whites. They will not have eaten during the day. They will appriciate it.:thumb:
 
Per the 2017 PTR Packet the Company/Platoon letters are not being sent out this year and the address for Plebes is in the following format:

MIDN John L. Doe
USNA Class of 2017
___ Company, ____ Platoon
Annapolis, MD 21412
 
some people from my area already know from the mids, guess we've been put into the system
 
Has anyone gotten an official letter from the United States Naval Academy telling them of their company assignment or has it all been word of mouth this year?
 
We did not received an official letter, but the USNA admission sent my son an e-mail.
 
anyone have a guess as to why some are getting them and some arent?

DS just received email from USNA with Company and platoon information!:thumb: Also wondering... are Company assignments random or is there a method to the placement?
 
My DS received an email from the Admissions office regarding his Company Assignment today as well. Company 27, O Platoon.

My recall from a prior thread (which I cannot find right now, sorry), is that it is some of each, but I cannot vouch for the source. Initially, the assignments are rumored to be made alphabetically in numeric rotation (i.e., starting with the "A" last names and putting the Plebes in Company 1, 2, 3 ... etc.). THEN, those assignments are reviewed to make sure there is a good dispersion across Companies of varsity athletes (so that one Company doesn't get to miss various formations entirely, and so forth), as well as a balancing on the male/female ratios.

I also suspect that there might be a few not-so-random and fixed assignments up-front, but I might be wrong :smile:
 
Wherever you get assigned they will be you best friends forever. Plebe Summer Squad, then Platoon and Brigade.:thumb:
 
DS just got email that he is assigned to Golf Company 13th platoon which if a am correct means he will be a "Lucky 13" in the academic year.
