USNA CVW

Email. First time he was invited to a CVW, it was in Spring of Junior year-shortly after he was informed he was not invited to NASS.

So our DS's application was complete 1.5 weeks ago. West Coast.

How were you notified-letter or email from USNA admissions?

Thanks

I was notified via email. I am from the west coast as well.

My DD has a 100% completed application and holds a Presidential nomination. She is 3Q. She contacted her admissions office earlier this week regarding CVW and was told that since she attended NASS she would likely not receive an invite to CVW. The admissions officer said they prefer candidates who have not been to NASS. I guess they already "got her" so they are reserving those CVW invites to secure other candidates.

Congrats on DD's status. How did you learn that DD is 3Q this early on? Thanks for any response.

Not Factual Info...

"She is 3Q."
USNA Does not even know what their academic requirements are for the class of 2019. You never know if you are 3Q

Also not factual. I am aware of one candidate who attended both NASS and is scheduled for a CVW. If you check the board there are several who have already attended a CVW, applied and were not chosen and are attending another CVW this year. .

This sums it up from a BGO

From a BGO on being 3Q'd...

I will add a couple things:

- The Board doesn't meet until September, NOBODY is 3Q'd at this time. It's impossible.

- I thought the official word from admissions was 40% complete for an interview. But maybe this could be just guidance from our AC (area Coordinator). I will investigate it.

- Finally one thing that drives me nuts on all these internet sites (Forums, FB etc.). The 3 Q's: CFA, Medical and Board. The 3rd and final Q is BOARD. It is not academic or scholastic. It is an overall score taking into account a candidates overall composite score (Whole Person) which can/will include things like: CFA scores, ECAs', ACT/SAT scores, Teacher Recommendations, Sports participation and YES Academics (GPA, class ranking etc...). Getting that third Q is making a big cut/milestone. From the 18K plus applications the Academy gets every year only about 2500-3000 get 3 Q'd. Unfortunately as discussed, us BGO's are not supposed to tell the candidates when they are 3 Q'd. Do I agree with this no, but I abide by it. One thing to remember also if you are 3 Q'd you will not be considered for the NAPS, read: someone who gets accepted to NAPS was never 3 Q'd.

Hope this helps. I know this a painful long process, especially if you are not an LOA player. My best advice is to work on plan B and C , it's a very competitive road to the USNA. I have seen kids with near perfect SAT's get turned down and kids with marginal SAT's get accepted. Don't take it personnel, the Navy Officer Corp consist of only about 20-25% USNA graduates, there is more then way to skin a cat (get a commission). Good luck everyone...

Back on the topic of this up coming CVW, the plebes always appreciate it when people bring sweets. :thumb:

You are not factual either  I know that the board has been meeting, because I know someone here on the yard on the board(and they started two weeks ago). I also know that I received and LOA on 20AUG10, so it is possible to be triple Q'ed this early in the year (I know that was 4 years ago, but still)

I assume your "not factual" comment related to what my DD was told by her admissions counselor and not the veracity of my post. At least I hope that is the case. I am simply relaying the information provided by my DD's admissions counselor. I'm sure there are exceptions. Just re-stating what she was told.

How does one find out they are 3Q'd?

For 250 years the 3q'd code, found on the Shepherds' Monument at Shugborough Hall, has mystified candidates, parents, and visitors from all walks of life, including BGOs'.

BGO said they have not met yet

BGO said the board has not met yet. You must have more info than they do.

If I was her I would call and ask her admissions officer again.
I know of one candidate who attended NASS and is attending an upcoming CVW. All they did was call and ask to attend.
Could be something with your district being more competitive or more people apply from your district. Not sure.

Good luck to your child.

Thanks for the clarification. Appreciate your well wishes.

I think it translates to 1594...close approximation of the number of offers extende each year

By "got her" do you mean she's already received an appointment?

I remember hearing of several candidates last year who attended both NASS as well as CVW. In my sons case he was not fortunate enough to be invited to NASS but he did receive at least 5 or 6 CVW invitations, including a few after he received his appointment in October.

I guess we can't really draw conclusions about candidates based on who is or isn't invited to anything.

No. Simply means that she is 100% committed with a fully completed app and doesnt need a CVW to help her decide.

I have everything completed except (transcript, SAT, BGO interview, etc) for my application, except for my Candidate Activities Record and Candidate Academic Information. I'm waiting on my counselor to submit those. Is that possibly a reason why I did not get an invite for a CVW?
