I am applying to the USNA, and for an NROTC Scholarship.
I have already finished my USNA Essay and am starting my NROTC one. I don't want to take the shortcut and use pieces of my USNA essay for my NROTC one although my intro in my USNA essay is the same thing I want to use for my NROTC essay (Just a 1-2 sentence intro on how I got interested in Naval Service).
Any BGO or anyone with good insight think it would be fine to use the same introduction for both? Thanks for the help.

I think you are fine. They don't share this info at all.

As long as it is your work and it answers/addresses the question for the particular application you are fine.

I was recently granted candidate status for USNA! After thoroughly searching the portal, I can’t seem to find the essay prompt(s), let alone a place to submit one. Do any other official candidates know of the USNA essay prompt whereabouts?

It’s in the “personal data record” link, second to last link in the form is “personal statement” you’ll find it there. Good Luck!!!

It's absolutely appropriate to "reuse" portions of your essay for USNA and NROTC, and frankly, I would expect that most people do --particularly when describing why you are interested in becoming a Naval Officer.

Please be careful in re-using portions of your essays. I proofread an essay for a candidate who inadvertently left a reference to West Point in her USNA application. I could image seeing the eye rolls from the members of the selection committee when seeing similar gaffes.

Absolutely, it is appropriate. Just make sure all essays are tailored to the topic. USNA and NROTC are both Navy, so naturally much of the content would be similar. Also, it’s always a good idea to have someone else review the essay, and never rely fully on spellcheck.

Best wishes!

Of course, attention to detail is critical ...
That being said, even an inadvertent reference to West Point would't be the kiss of death for a real good candidate. We all know that the good candidates are applying to multiple Service Academies. I never bad mouth the other Service Academies, but often explain how they are different, with emphasis on why I am glad I attended USNA.

Along the lines of reusing portions of essays, can I reuse my intro from my NASS application essay? I think that same intro would work well for the first prompt on this year's USNA application, but I don't want to risk the admissions officers seeing my Summer Seminar essay and realizing that both essays start out the same.

I doubt they'll compare them . . . not even sure they keep the NASS applications. However, you probably wrote your NASS essay in January. By the middle of the summer, you'll be 6 months older (which is a lot when you're 17), have finished your junior year, have completed NASS . . . you might find that time and experience leads you to tweak your essay a bit to reflect all that.

Does it fit with the prompt?
Is it from your heart?
If the answer to both of these is yes then I would use it.
A true statement from your heart is worth repeating.

Thanks! I'm definitely going to write a new, different essay, I just don't think I'll be able to word my intro as well as I did for my NASS essay.
