We are new to this and I am wondering how do you become selected as a Foundation recipient. Is it the same process as getting into NAPS where you are automatically considered when you are not given an appointment, or is there something else you need to do?

DS's received an email asking if he would consider Naval Academy Foundation Program. He said yes and was contacted by the Foundation within days. We're completing the forms now and wondering if any other USNA candidates are in the process of completing a Foundation application.

To answer the OP's question, candidates are automatically considered for NAPS/Foundation. Other than indicating to your BGO that you would be interested in the program (the BGO is supposed to ask), there is nothing more the candidate needs to do. If the BGO didn't ask, don't worry about it.

On rare occasions a candidate with an appointment, who becomes disqualified medically, may be sponsored by the Foundation to go into a one-year “holding pattern” to clear that condition. NMMI had one such case this year when a Foundation student was added to our roles after he reported for I Day.

THS: I have a candidate currently considering a Foundation offer.
