Hello!
I just received my PTR in the mail and have some questions about Navy Federal Banking. First off, I was planning on setting up an account with them as the academy recommended that their students have a Navy Federal account. However, I am only 17. The registration requires that students are 18 years old. Has anyone here experienced this problem? Did you find a way to open an account with them or what did you end up doing? In general, is it a good idea to go with Navy Federal?

I was only 17 as well and (granted it was years ago) didn't have any issues putting the account in my own name. I've been a member of NFCU for  nearly 35 years and had only a positive experience.

NFCU is absolutely the way to go. There is a branch right by Bancroft. You should have no issues setting up the account. If you are concerned about the age issue call them they will set it up over the phone. All pay is direct deposited so this is really a great way to go. NFCU branches are available everywhere when you get into the fleet and they offer ATM credits if you are travelling and unable to locate a branch. Really great folks.

Another nice thing about NFCU is that they belong to the CO-OP ATM network. When I'm not near a NFCU branch, I can usually get fee-free cash from the nearest 7-11. You can find out if there are ATMs close to your home by going to the NFCU website and look under the Branch & ATM locations link. https://www.navyfederal.org/branches-atms/index.php
