I'm a soon to be plebe of USNA class of 2018. For those that have gone through plebe summer, I was wondering how much of a change did you notice in your performance in the IST (initial strength test) compared to your first graded PRT at the end of plebe summer. If possible, you can include scores.

Thank you.

Ok for me, I am a long distance swimmer so I was a horrible runner going into Plebe Summer. I don't remember the exact score from when I took the IST, but I remember my mile time was in the upward of 9:30 (yeah that bad). Though Plebe Summer made me a lot better runner to where by the time the PRT came through, I passed the Mile and half with a 10:01 (10:30 is failing). I can't say everyone had as darastic of a change as I did because some came in better shape or were cross country runner, etc. but if you put in effort over plebe summer, you're going to come out a lot better.

Go Navy Pro -

Ironcially, my daughter is a rower and she did the mile in 8:02 for her initial test, but that was full on for her. She's been doing the program that you all got and is using a treadmill so she knows she is going at the pace listed. Whoa.

Let's face it - the only way to get better at running, is to run.

Run Forest! (Sorry I couldn't help myself.)

Not meaning to take shots at any of you, but how did you pass the CFA with those mile times? And if you don't mind me asking, what were your CFA scores?

Haha, I don't mind. And my mile time for the CFA was 6:46 when I went to NASS (I know this cause I'm staring at my old application right now) cause I actually trained for the CFA and that's considered a passing score. And in comparison, the 10:01 for the mile and half is a better time (per 1/2 mile) then the CFA mile time, so I can at least say that I'm a better runner now then back then (barely:thumb:)

And if you're wondering why my IST time is so bad, it's just because I was a bad Plebe that didn't heed the advice of running before going to plebe summer (*hint* *hint* *cough* *cough*) and was more focused training for swimming.
Hope that clears things up for ya.

Actually, my daughter corrected me and her mile time was MUCH faster than I said. I got the "Mom, that's the mile pace I ran 3 miles in yesterday..."

She had a 720 mile, max in sit up, push up and pull ups and threw 58 feet and 7.9 on the shuttle run.

Let it be known she did well.

I am also heading in with the class of 2018 for plebe summer, but as a long distance runner, so my swimming skills are not quite as high. My other problem is that I live in a rural North Idaho town with a lake, but the lake temperature is still hovering around 55 degrees, and we don't have a pool. So with my running, my cardio is decent, but how important will swimming be? I think I can tread water for 15 minutes, but I have no way to test.

There will be a few pool classes during plebe summer, but nothing too major or important. There's a test to tread water for 15 or 20 minutes during the summer but you do it with your classmates who can help/motivate you if needed. Other than that, you won't need to worry too much about swimming until you take plebe swimming class spring semester of your plebe year.
