USNA Summer Seminar 2013

Yes! I attended Summer Seminar last year and they give you an opportunity to walk around the arena and meet all of the coaches and fill out recruitment forms. It really is a fun expierence(capture the flag at 3 am in the middle of the yard on the last night was the highlight for me)lol.

That's great. I'm lucky that I'll have the opportunity to speak with a coach at my CVW as well (they're very considerate and kind when you email them).

My daughter applied very late to the summer seminar. She was just informed that she was waitlisted. Is this a gentle rejection or is there a legitimate chance of being asked along at some point?

There Is A Chance

My son was wait listed. After he arrived from a CVW, he got an invitation to NASS. So, it can happen. Cheers and good luck.

Getting accepted

Since I didn't get accepted to USNA NASS :unhappy: I posted on Naval Academy's Facebook page asking if I still was competitive for an appointment although I didn't get accepted to NASS. They replied "although we cannot release stats, 50% of the current freshman class didn't attend NASS". My question is do I still have a chance at getting an appointment. My reasoning behind this is out of the 50% how many of those actually applied and didn't get accepted or also out of that 50% how many didn't know about it until registration had ended?

Recruiting tool

DS applied to both USNA and USAFA summer seminars last year. He only was accepted to USNA's. He received appointments to both USNA and USAFA this year. The admissions office at USAFA said that it sometimes harder to get into the summer program than it is to get an appointment. Remember NASS is just a recruiting tool...

I've heard that (although not a ton), some NASS attendees don't complete the application. I seriously doubt not attending the Seminar will harm you in any way, lots of competitive applicants don't. I wouldn't worry about it.

My son applied March 31, at 10pm. He was notified that he was accepted to NASS on April 3. That was the fastest turnaround!!

He also applied for USAFA summer seminar and did not get in.....

Wouldnt you love to be a fly on the wall to figure out how they choose!

One thing is for sure, if you don't apply you have zero chance at an appointment. Not sure what answer you are looking for.

Don't Worry about it

All of the Academies have stated that they don't give any weightage to summer programs in the application process. So basically, if you get in great - and if you don't it doesn't matter.
I've also heard that CVW is a more true to life experience of USNA life than NASS, so finish up your application and you will likely get invited to that!!

Now that is one fine attitude!
