Usna thin white envelope

Yah, either way there's still always going to be X amount of nominations until the population goes up in the next census, but either way it's a fixed number. 17,000 is just Navy's way to show off, the number itself is irrelevant to the amount of people who get 3Q'd with a nomination. If there were less applicants it would be the same story. Because of nominations, the number of applicants is irrelevant.

I really didn't understand what you are trying to say.

17,000 applicants seems to be less than relevant now since MOC noms have been completed, files can'r be updated by candidates, etc.

Am I wrong?

There were not 17,000 completed applications to review.

17,000 people clicked on the website and typed in their name and some preliminary information.

My guess is probably half of those actually got a candidate number, and perhaps 5,000 of them actually completed the application.

Tread lightly....the time is coming, when I visited my admissions officer, (He/she) *discrete* pretty much told me that they are pretty much choosing which arm they want to keep they are techincally "booked", they have had 17k applicants this year. Incredible huh, and a mess of reapplicants. Thursday is blursday for me, my file is going to be reviewed that day. Good luck to all. :thumb:

Sorry for my incoherent nature of writing. I visited USNA recently, and when I met my officer personally, they told me that there was an overwhelming qualified number of applicants so they are working hard to get things done. I also had the pleasure of being told upfront that I might not get in. I paraphased that they are "booked". You can edit your file through your officer if new light is brought to your file. Hope that this is a tad bit more coherent.

I asked plebe son if they had heard anything about the goings on in Leahy Hall (Admissions). He said they had a Supe's Call in January where they were told there were more qualified applicants than in the past. He's heard a few comments since that indicate the same.

3 Q'd

Several weeks ago it was a TWE with the letter advising he was scholastically qualified.

So, the CFA has one physically qualified, DoDMERB has one medically qualified and a letter tells them they are scholastically qualified? I would think to get a nom that one would have the good grades, test scores, etc. Why the separate letter? (besides to scare you!)

TWE = "Sorry No Appointment" direct from the Naval Academy. Scholastically qualified letter is not the TWE.

I would think to get a nom that one would have the good grades, test scores, etc. Why the separate letter? (besides to scare you!)

The nomination process is completely separate from academy admission. You have to be found Scholastically Qualified by the Academy (the SQ letter) and also the MOC nomination process has to independently judge you worthy of a nomination.

I think this is what you were asking...

What you say is true only for those who already have a nomination.

In the early stages, while everybody is still competing for a nomination, the total number of applications certainly IS a factor.

However, nomination-wise, the die is cast for the Class of 2014.

If this trend continues, with ever-increasing applications, it most certainly DOES make it more competitive for subsequent classes. Getting the NOMINATION will be a challenge simply because there is going to be a greater number of applications within your state & congressional district.

I am not a seasoned SA poster like many on this site, but I wanted to share my experience with the TWE.

Last Spring I was very hopeful for an appointment from either USNA or USAFA but instead I got TWEs from both (USAFA put me on the waiting list for awhile before denying me). After some prayer and guidance from loved ones and amazing people on this site, I was determined to reapply for the class of 2014. I have spent the last year at college in an ROTC program and amazingly enough, have been blessed with appointments to each SA this year! This summer I will be leaving for a SA and as for the reapplication process and "extra" year spent at a civilian university, I WOULD NOT TRADE IT!

I see this year more as a gift than anything.... I have met some great AFROTC cadets, learned how use time-management skills, gotten a leg up on physical fitness and engineering classes, have learned how to live away from home, and almost best of all.... I can go to either Annapolis or Colorado Springs without any second guessing or wishing "that I could be having a good time with my friends in college", because I know what it is like and I am confident of where I want to be (well, at least one of the two )

The two pieces of advice that I would give would be: 1) figure out WHY you did not get accepted. If this means driving to Leahy Hall on the Yard and not leaving until they give you an answer, then DO IT! I figured out after plebe summer started that I was disqualified medically because of one stupid eye test-- that wasn't even correct! (got it fixed immediately after notification) and 2) If going to a SA is really what you want to do, then persevere and do not let anyone or anything deter you from clinging to that hope. I heard of a guy who had applied 3 times to the USAFA until getting in and he said it was the best thing he has ever done!

Anyway, my two cents...

Great post kirbinator!

I'm going to make a copy of this and use it to inspire any of 'my' kids who get the TWE. I could tell them the same things that you said but it will mean so much more coming from someone who has been there.

Thanks - and Congrats !!! :thumb::thumb:

Congratulations, You are a person of perseverance and determination. You will succeed, not just at a SA, but in life. My son went to high school, with a young man who is now, at USNA. The first Christmas he came home, he came to see our family. I told him right or wrong in front of my son, that he and others who attend SA, will accomplish more in four years there, than most student a traditional college or university will in the next 20 years of their lives. He just has a presence, about him.

Good luck and God Speed
Thanks for serving our country,
RGK

Dreaded TWE

Same here, nomination but TWE arrived. ... On to plan B, and C if necessary. Good luck to those still waiting. The talent of candidates is unequalled, and no matter what the outcome, it has certainly been an honor to be among the best the country has to offer. May everyones's dreams come true, no matter the path that gets them there!

Good luck in whatever you do

Remember, there are many paths to a rich and fulfilled life. We may be looking at alternate paths ourselves, so it's good to see you persevere.

I dont post on here much but I got my TWE a week or so ago. No big deal though. Wasn't expecting to get in after my BGO interview.

Luckily I decided the Navy isn't for me and I will be doing Army at Virginia Tech. Backup plans are a lifesaver. haha.

Read your original post, Burton. What happened with your interview?

Our son is still waiting to hear from USNA -- hopefully it will be soon one way or the other! His Plan B (which could turn out to be plan A) is also Va Tech. Where are you from?
