V-22 Osprey rescues F-15E pilot

I was simply curious to see if the F-15 was known for anything, thats all.

The F-15E is known to be THE premier 4th Gen strike fighter in the world. Bar none other.

So glad they're safe....not to be insensitive, but does anyone know if they'll do an analysis on why the mechanical failure happened?

No problem at all asking the question. The answer is Yes.

Raising a toast tonight in my home: to our life support crews and our maintainers who made sure their ejection systems performed flawlessly; to our SERE cadre who trained these guys and taught them how to successfully evade and survive in enemy territory, and how to establish that life saving contact when on the ground; to the rescue crews who flew into harms way, regardless of the danger to themselves, all because we made a promise oh so long ago that we will NEVER leave a buddy behind, regardless of race, religion, sex, or even service they are flying for; for the folks in the command centers, who lived one of their worst nightmares: airplane down in bad-guy land, for their professionalism and skill is coordinating a MASSIVE rescue effort on a moment's notice;

And lastly, to the loved ones of this crew, who are most likely sitting at home tonight at a base far from home, surrounding by friends and wives of commanders, laughing, crying, and thanking the LORD ALMIGHTY that while their first prayer may not have been unanswered ("Please God, keep him safe"), their second prayer was ("Please God, bring him home to me").

My thoughts and prayers are with the wives of this crew most of all. The wives of military men are a special breed, and they have just had to live through a nightmare. No words can express how truly in awe I am of them, and how thankful I am for the blessed outcome today...

Great story...great relief that the downed officer wasn't recovered by Gadhafi or pro-Gadhafi forces!
