Hello! I am a female high school junior from Pennsylvania. I am attending NASS and AFA SS (still waiting to hear back from AIM). I was accepted to SLS as well, but because it conflicts with my AFA SS week, I cannot attend. My school does not let out until after all three are over, so I am missing too much school already.

I desire to attend a service academy to serve my country and to challenge myself. I am the student that chose to take the lower grade in the harder class just so I would have to work harder. My idea of a good Friday night is four hours on the computer putting together a report.

My grandfather was in the navy as a kid, and my uncle was in the army in his twenties. I also have a second cousin that is career navy, but I by no means come from a military environment. I first became interested in joining the military in seventh grade after doing a report on my grandfather. I always assumed I would join the reserves. In high school I found out about ROTC and had my heart set on doing that in college; then, I had a friend get accepted to USNA. Since it was my first encounter with a service academy, I started researching it right away and have been obsessively researching all 5 academies ever since, trying to figure out my fit.

Well, I guess that pretty much serves as a good introduction for myself. I look forward to conversing with all the great people on this forum during this year's arduous application process.

Good luck to all applicants for class of 2014 !!!

Welcome to a fellow Pennsylvanian, and congrats on getting into SS. This board has a great wealth of information on all the different SA's, and everyone is great at answering questions. As an appointee to the AFA Class of 2013, I know the application process to any SA is a long one, with many ups and downs. If you have any questions about the AFA, feel free to ask.

And ditto to kaullman, good luck!

Sorry vampsoul, I just now saw this. I'm not sure I can really comment on the competitiveness of the process, as I can only relate my own personal experience. I applied for the nominations from Senators Specter and Casey, as well as my district's (19th) Representative, Platts. Got the Rep. nom, and not the senators. I would say Platts application process was the most difficult, as the interview was before a panel of about 6 people, with representatives from the big 3 SA's, while the senator interviews were just with a 2 person panel.

Sorry I couldn't offer any more info. There may be some statistics online about nomination competitiveness for PA, but I don't know where you'd find them.
