Hello,
I'm currently in the application process for the Air Force Academy and am a little worried because I have a left varicocele. It doesn't cause me that much pain and is not that large. Is this disqualifying? If it is, is it ok to schedule surgery asap to I can get rid of it before 2010 rolls around? Is this surgery in any way disqualifying if I get it before my DODMERB exam?

Thanks,
Academania

Yes, there is a disqualification code for that condition:

D173.30 - Hydrocele, left varicocele, right varicocele

Mr Mullen will be able to advise you as to whether or not surgical correction of the condition will remove the DQ as well as the waiver procedure.

I have sent academania specific instruction as it relates to him:thumb:

who would be the point of contact now since this post was from 2009

Mr. Mullen is still with DODMERB; I met him at a service academy event a few months ago so you might as well contact him.
