I have been reading regularly and have found this forum very helpful. I was wondering how many on here have the VP nomination?

VP nomination dont come out until april if i'm correct. USNA sent out letters recently to all that applied for VP noms.

The VP has 5 nominations. Thos 5 nominations are awarded by the academy at the end of the admissions cycle (around April). So, for those that do not have a nomination there is always a slim sliver of hope that the SA wants you enough to give you one of those 5 nominations.

More than likely most folks won't know who their nominating source is until the class is completely formed on I Day. Admissions will move who they charge Noms to many times. I remember us getting a small card during Plebe Summer to decide if we wanted our grades sent to our parents and/or MOC (this is done by computer now) and it listed our Nom source. Most were surprised to see where they were finally charged too. As mentioned previously, everyone should be applying to for the VP nom, its a matter of how USNA charges those 5.

The VP has 5 vacancies to be filled at USNA at any given time. It is the same requirements as a MOC except any US citizen candidate can apply...so the pool is nation-wide. So for each vacancy used there are 10 candidates who can be nominated.

Usnabgo08 is correct and is the reason I just want to scream when a candidate tells me he did not apply for a VP nom "because the odds are so small". 5 vacancies X 10 noms = 50 noms. You don't want one of those nominations? Sheesh.

Whoops, wait a minute you don't know how many slots he has filled--could be none this year or more. So lets assume 4 are filled and 1 is available. Still 10 noms floating out there....sure you don't want one of those?

+1 @Spud
And the VP Nom application is very easy compared to the the academy application and the 3 MOC packages that you have to put together.
