Realize also that the academies have the latitude to switch around nominations. Example… you have a presidential nomination and a senator and another individual from your state has similar. They may use the military nomination for you so they can free up the senate nomination for someone else, or vice versa. It’s a complicated system to try and maximize nominations. That’s why it’s important to get as many as you can. When the academy issued early appointments more often, you could get an appointment with a military nomination as early as October and then you didn’t even need to apply for other nominations. Although the academy prefers you do apply for others so they can swap later your military nomination for a senate nomination and use the military nomination for someone else in that 100 slots. Basically get as many nominations as you can and the academy will use whichever one they choose.
