This is a great little series put together by a few Army soldiers. They profile the daily interaction of aviation assets with ground forces in Afghanistan. For those who aren't sure on a direction in the Army, this might give you some fresh perspective.

    Scouts out.

For the Soldiers on the Ground Pt. 1 - The Attack on Khowst

For the Soldiers on the Ground Pt. 2 - The Attack on Khowst

For the Soldiers on the Ground Pt. 3 - The Air Assault

For the Soldiers on the Ground Pt. 4 -MEDEVAC

    Epilogue

    If you have questions, ask!

    Medevac positions

How many of the MEDEVAC crew are officers? Are the pilots medically trained (i.e. medics) and are the medics also pilots? the reason I ask, is I thought the field medic was an enlisted position, but if someone is interested in the medical field, are there aviation/flight medic positions available to officers? do they need to branch medical, or aviation, or is there a field where these interests cross?
    Thanks.

The pilots are all officers, either commissioned or warrant. The commissioned officers are 67J, which is a medical service corps identifier. For reasons that are debatable, the commissioned pilots are med service corps. The warrants are not, as they are aviation branch. The pilots have no significant medical training.

Flight medics are enlisted. Medical officers (doctors) are flight surgeons, but they do not perform onboard medical duties. That is left to flight medics.

Awesome video series Scout! Thanks for posting them. I showed the videos to my 2012 cadet who is hoping to branch aviation next Thursday. They definitely added to the excitement of the coming week.

He is interested in the Apache or Kiowa. But really just wants to fly. Next Thursday should be an exciting night for them all.

Thanks for posting these. Both of my sons watched them multiple times. The older son is a WP applicant this year and younger son has a couple of years to think about the direction he wants to pursue.

Scout, are these videos were great. Are there any other videos that give as much information about other branches? I'd like to know more about them all.

Probably, but after seeing those videos why would you want to be in any other branch?

Scoutpilot, I was just wondering, what kind of vision requirements does the army have for helicopter pilots? Are there specific for requirements for normal vision and for color vision? Also, are any of those vision issues waiverable?

    Thanks
