Videotape CFA Pullups and Situps

Last year before R-Day my son received a letter stating based on his CFA scores he would be required to do "X" number of pull-ups on R-Day or he could possibly be dismissed.
My DD received this same message on her portal prior to R-Day this past June, I think all new cadets received it. There seems to be concern about submitted CFA pull up scores not matching up with R-Day pull up scores. I would not over think why they are asking for the video, I would just do it.

Last year before R-Day my son received a letter stating based on his CFA scores he would be required to do "X" number of pull-ups on R-Day or he could possibly be dismissed. I guess they have had a real problem with false scores or the fact that someone is not strict enough in the techniques, so I can understand the videos, but the ones done at the academies would have been completed correctly. I don't understand why it is not done like the DODMER and it is scheduled with someone that is trained to give the CFA's. My father said they use to do it about once a month at the National Guard Armory back in the 90's, but they no longer do that. We actually had a difficult time finding a place to do it, because my son's school does not have a pull-up bar in the gym, it is in the wresting building.

I was with you right up until you said 'like DoDMERB'. I thought my DD's 'physical' with Concordia could have been handled equally as well as by a trained monkey. I actually think the DoDMERB physical should be administered only after the medical forms submission is reviewed and then only done when questions arise.

I would agree, if the USMA has lost faith in the PE instructors, then find another way to get it done. But regardless of who administers you will always find some people more lax and other more strict regarding adherence to the proper form.

Back in the "old" days, wasn't the PT test administered on some military base by an officer? If there is such "lack of faith" by USMA, why not go back to doing it on the bases? I'm assuming it's a logistical issue (ie. not as many army/military bases, how to adhere to the time/interval/rest periods with multiple candidates, scheduling/administering/coordination, etc).

You just answered your own question - another way to get it done. The Department of Physical Education is proponent for the CFA. With a video tape, the DPE has a way to ensuring the pull up and push up standards are met.

Remembering seeing an Internet video about a guy trying to set the new world record for push ups. if we applied the Army standard, the count would have been zero.

I took my CFA with a SSGT and a Captain(My FF rep is active duty recruiting officer and USMA grad). I have not received an email about submitting a video.

My son reached out to admissions earlier this morning to ask whether he should record his pull-ups and push-ups during his CFA. WP admissions told him that if they wanted him to record those events WP would inform him of its decision to do so. Otherwise, he should go forward with the CFA without making arrangements to record the events. IMHO, this seems to be a random QA/QC check sent to a few lucky candidates. I sincerely doubt WP admissions wants to (or has the personnel available to) watch 10,000+ videos of pull-ups and push-ups, unless it is trying to cure bad cases of insomnia.
