Someone on this board PM'ed me a few weeks ago about VA senator noms as well as asked whether VA MOCs would "duplicate" noms -- i.e., more than one MOC would give the same person a nom to the same SA. At the time I didn't know . . . now I have some additional information.

At least one of the VA senators has reported his slate. I don't know which one, b/c BGOs don't have access to this info. And, at least one of my candidates received 2 VA MOC noms to the same SA. For privacy reasons, I won't post ANY information about this candidate, and won't provide it in response to a PM, so please don't ask.

As an update, I've heard from a couple of VA folks who say that one or more of their MOCs said they would not duplicate noms -- and didn't, at least for these folks.

Bottom line is that MOCs can do what they want. 2 can agree not to dupe and the 3rd could decide to dupe. If you live in VA and are applying for 2015, it probably makes sense to make one choice early on b/c you may only get one shot at one SA. If you get more, be thankful, but don't count on it.

My son got a nom from our rep. here in VA and only applied to one SA. He also interviewed with a senator. The senator's office mentioned they were aware when the rep would submit his names and the senator would follow shortly. The way this was worded/expressed seemed to me like a nom from a rep AND a senator would not happen. I am reading between the lines here but that is how I took that information. My son got a letter from the senator about a week later informing him that over 600 applications were reviewed. My son was one of twenty interviewed for a nom. but did not get one from the senator.
Based on everything I've read it seems rare in VA to get a double nom.

I received VA61, VA61, and VA62. Any idea who they are? Supposedly I got one from Sen. Warner.

My son interviewed with one of the VA Senators and was given the impression that the Senator took into consideration whether or not a candidate had a nomination from any source, not just another MOC. Son already has an ROTC nom from his NJROTC commander (which the interviewer specifically asked about) and found out this weekend that he did not receive the Senator's nom.

Also for the 2015-ers out there, please understand that MOCs can change their approach year to year. So the fact that there were dupe noms this year doesn't mean it will happen next year.

Todays mail brought a nomination from our rep. Totally unexpected as son hadn't heard anything from either the rep or senator # 2 since he submitted his applications back in October. Senator # 2 did not give him a nomination. Son is much happier than he was a couple of days ago; it's a great way to end the week!

I received a nomination from both Senator Warner and Congressman Scott (3rd) the United States Air Force Academy. I know that Senator Warner didn’t weight his slates. Do you know if Congressman Scott did? I was specifically told by Senator Warner’s Academy Coordinator that they would not be duplicating nominations in order to give everyone a chance. I don’t really know why Senator Warner nominated me if he knew Congressman Scott was going to and vice versa. If I am chosen first by the Academy in one of their slates, will I receive an appointment against one of their spots and someone else will fill the vacancy of the other, or do I have to decline either Scott’s or Warner’s nominations up front? If I am not chosen first for either, then I will go into a qualified alternate pool, right? How does this work?

My son is eligible for a Presidential nom based off of my prior service. Sounds like that might be his only avenue, although he could get one from his NJROTC CDR. That is unlikely as this is the first year for the unit and the CDR has limited Noms.

I did not receive a nomination from either Senator or my Congressman, even with an LOA. That is how tough the competition was/is in Virginia. I was advised that Virginia had over 600 applicants to each Seantor. However, I did received a Superintendant Nomination.

Congrats - saw that you have a appointment - I do believe that Virginia MOC's are very aware of the LOA's and the supe's ability to award nom
    - my son did receive congressman's nom - on his list this year - but this is his 2nd time to apply - the numbers for virginia are 600 range for senators, and at least for our district - both year's have seen over 100 applicants.
Both year's the letter's received from senators spelled out their intent to elp as many virginians as possible and their work with USNA to know "who had other avenues to appointment"
Last year my son only had the Pres nom as his avenue to appointment -this year he got the MOC avenue - we still wait to see if appointment is in his future.
My sincere congrats on your appointment - enjoy!

I am just wondering if any one has heard from Senator Warner or Congressman Bobby Scott that they got an appointment to the USAFA. I am starting to get a little nervous.

MOCs may not call/contact you about an appointment. They are offered a week to do so but aren't required to. After a week, USNA lets you know. I assume the process works the same for USAFA, but don't know for sure.
