Is there any situation where cadets can live off campus? Personally, I'm fine with living in barracks, it's just interested me for a while how many cadets, if any, live off campus, and why.

From touring the new Pearson Hall, why would anyone want too?

I mean I've spent a few years in a nice barracks at a military school, and I could give you three good reasons.

I was always under the assumption that living off campus is a no-go at VT as a cadet. As a matter of fact I always thought that every cadet in the Corps MUST live in the Corps dorm, iows, they don't even have the option to live in traditional on campus housing.

Basically, that is the thing with an SMC like VT...you may attend classes with kids like my DD, but your lifestyle as a student will be more rigid because you will be part of the Corps.
~ My DD would leave her dorm and go and study with her friends at the Corps dorm because of silent hours.

Check the cadet regulations on the VTCC website - IIRC it is allowed with special permission under certain circumstances (ie a cadet is from Blacksburg or married) but I don't think it's done often. In fact I can think of several cadets with families in Blacksburg that still lived in the dorms.
