HI,
My daughter has 20/400 vision corrected to 20/20. Her prescription for her contacts is BC: 8.5 Dia: 14.2 Pwr -2.50. She has been accepted to both SLS at Westpoint and Summer Seminar @ AFA. In your experience, is her vision a disqualification to the academies? We are just getting started (she graduates HS in 2011). Thank You

I cannot answer as an authority but I received word on Friday that my son who had already received an LOA was denied because of 20/40 vision in one eye that was only correctable to 20/25. The other eye is 20/20. And he received 2 nominations....

I think if it's correctable to 20/20, you're good. I'm not entirely sure, but uncorrected, my vision isn't too great. Corrected it's 20/20, and I'm good to go. Got an appointment to USMA.

There is a difference in the vision requirements for USMA and USNA.
USNA is much stricter (DQ for myopia at -6, whereas USMA and USAFA DQ at -8)and I've read that the number of vision waivers are limited at USNA.

Madmom36, have you contacted Mr. Mullen? He is absolutely amazing and will guide you on anything else you can do. We were able to submit personal vision records from the last 3 years and then went for a second eye test, that really helped when appealing the initial waiver denial from USNA.

Do not give up until Mr. Mullen says to!

Again, the only way to know for sure is to cut and pate your posting; provide full names and last 4 SSN; send to me at Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil. This way, I can assist YOU as the standards; your medical status; and the programs you have applied to will be specifically addresses as it pertains to YOU...not percentages...not what other people think....not hypotheticals....YOU:thumb:
