I got a letter and an email about coming to the yard for a candidate visit weekend and it was the first I had heard from the academy since I finished my application. Does this mean they might be interested in accepting me, or do all applicants get similar letters?

All applicants do not get similar letters. The letter shows that USNA is interested in you, and they are offering you a chance to find out more about life at the academy. A candidate visit weekend is no guarantee that you will receive an appointment, though.

It's a good sign, but not much more.

I have an LOA and have yet to be invited to a CVW.

call your regional director and ask, it's the only reason I received an invitation. Half the battle is just showing admissions how bad you want it

Well, I haven't the money to make another trip to Annapolis anyhow. NASS was enough for me.

I live about 45 minutes away from Annapolis and want to schedule a weekday visit so I can sit in on classes. Has anyone done this? What should I keep in mind? Can I request to stick with a midshipman who is taking classes I am interested in?

Candidate Visit Weekends (CVWs) start on Thursday afternoon to allow candidates to attend class with a current Plebe on Friday.

you can always try to request, but keep in mind that it may not be granted. When I went for CVW, they hadn't even assigned me a plebe and I was basically dropped off in a random company. I still got to experience everything, but it's proof that it isn't a highly organized event. Being dumped in the middle of a plebes life is what its about: seeing how they actually live from day to day. Also, most plebes take the same basic courses anyway and whatever you get to see still gives a pretty good general perspective on things (class size, teachers, curriculum even). if there's a specific class that you are dying to go to, ask if your plebe has a friend that you can tag along with instead. Again, it may not happen, but its worth a shot.
