If any parents have gone to the visitation weekends for appointed plebes, can you tell us what's in store for the parents? From what I can tell so far, it just two meetings???

Thanks.

I don't know exactly what my dad did, but I do know that he spent most of his time touring the campus and visiting Washington D.C. The rest of his time was trying to find me on the last day because my phone died I couldn't find anyone else with a cell phone to call him lol

It sounds like the OP is asking about a CVW, rather than PPW.

Working without a safety net (relying strictly on memory), I remember we accompanied our S to a meeting on Thursday night, after which he met his hosts and vanished into Bancroft. We went to dinner in Annapolis.

On Friday we did some tours of academic and lab spaces in the morning. In the afternoon, we attended a joint briefing with our S, although we didn't sit with him. It was parents over here and attendees over there. Friday night we again had dinner in Annapolis.

Saturday I believe we met our S at about noon when he was released. He had made his decision to attend USNA and is now a 2C.

Experience at CVW

Our experience at CVW (October of senior year)was very much as MIHOSER described. We had a presentation on Thursday evening after which they were assigned to the plebe whom they were to shadow. A schedule of available presentations and tours was given to us. Everything was completely optional, except picking up kids at the end(They want you keep them for a little bit longer). We enjoyed the tours and presentations. The most informative were the ones with parents of current or recently graduated Mids and the one with the Mids themselves. Stayed in Annapolis. DS told us on the way home that USNA had moved to the top of his list and he felt like he would be there soon. He had visited USAFA while at a national student council conference, did summer leadership seminar at West Point(applied but not selected for summer seminar at USAFA and NASS). At least he had seen all of his top choices in person, so we were comfortable that he was making an informed decision. (A CVW or summer seminar at all three would have been ideal but were out of reach for our budget.) DS ended up with offers of appointment to USNA (arrived Christmas Eve), USAFA and USMA. He is now a plebe at USNA, doing fine, says he made the right choice and is about as happy as a plebe can be when we talk to him. When other family and friends ask him how he likes it there, his reply is that some days are tougher than others but he is where he wants to be.

Enjoy the CVW, take the opportunity to learn about USNA and Annapolis, and best of luck.:thumb:

rookie here

hi... just a rookie to all the processes here, but are the CVW's extended to all candidates applying? or are they typically extended to kids that are receiving appts, but the academy wants to give them a visit when classs are in session and to be with current mids?

cvw

There is no apparent correlation between CVW and appointment. I think most competitive candidates are offered a CVW, however, some on this forum have had to request it, and then it's extended. As I understand it, the purpose is to give the cadidate a taste of life at the academy. After our DS attended it cemented USNA as his first choice, but he like many continues to wait....
