Is there anything "wrong" with scheduling a visit to WP after my DS has accepted his appointment? We are going to be in the area anyway. I don't want them to think it's a sign of "cold feet" but I hate to pass up the chance to visit one last time. He has visited before but not while classes were in session.

I don't think overnighters are allowed until after the offer. We scheduled an overnight after our daughter accepted her appointment. Will be up there on 18 April. The day visit is really short. So, this gives them a better idea of what to expect.

DS got an invite for an overnight visit back in the Fall. He didn't take them up on it since he had just been there for SLS. Glad to know that there are O/N after acceptance too. Thanks.

    Was he a recruited athlete?

    The Admissions website says:

•Come for an overnight visit, if you have applied and been accepted, or if you’ve received a Letter of Encouragement (LOE) from Admissions.

It's nice they offer this. My husband couldn't go on the day visit, so this will be nice for him, also!

DS received an LOE w/invite to overnight in November or December but did not schedule it until January, and to coincide with his Spring Break. Sports and other EC's got in the way earlier. He also attended SLS and he has already accepted his appointment. This experience is to just give him further confirmation that WP is where he wants to be come R-Day.

ArmyDaughter - IMO, there is nothing "wrong" with doing it after accepting. I don't think admissions will see it as a "cold-feet." It is his last chance to confirm WP is where he belongs. Cold Feet is when a candidate doesn't want to get off the bus on R-Day...

Do some people go on the overnight and decide "no, this is not where I belong"? What happens then if they have already accepted?

I am sure there are candidates that have changed their mind and if this happens I would let admissions know ASAP. My DS is doing his overnight visit tomorrow. DH is taking him and they will buy boots and LQs afterwards. I am wondering the same as DS was nonselect for SLS last summer. He did NASS and CVW with navy and from that visit DS decided he did not fit in with Naval Academy even though he loved going to NASS. DS will be hosted by friends older brother who has positive attitude about USMA. On his USNA visit his host did not have positive attitude which probably factored into his decision.

I hope I'm not missing something here....but I was at SLS this past summer (loved it!) and I've also been offered an appointment. However, how do I go about scheduling an overnight?

As I understand it, the experience we had at SLS, while similar, was still drastically different from a "typical" day as a cadet.

    Visit West Point

To schedule an overnight or day visit go to the home page for admissions and on left hand side select and click " Visit West Point" and follow instructions. DS is there tonight. He tweeted that he ran 6 mi along the Hudson with his host company. :thumb:

Your son will have a tough time with Yuk year if he can't handle a little (or a lot) cynicism :shake:
