So, we are turning our visit to USCGA into a family vacation. So after driving to the east coast, we will spend a few days in NYC, then drive up to Newport, RI. DD has made an appt. for a tour/briefing and we'll be driving from RI to the USCGA but wanted have lunch somewhere before the tour.

Any suggestions either near the academy or on the way from RI? We may do dinner in the area as well, I haven't really gotten that far in my trip planning.

    Thanks!

I have a whole list collected by CGA parents. PM me your email address and I'll pass it along. We've only done a couple of these, but they wouldn't be on the list if they weren't liked by somebody. Also includes some things to do.

My all time favorite....Captain Daniel Packer Inn in Mystic. A bit of fine dining if you are up for it.

I will second Grevar's recommendation for the Captain Daniel Packer Inn in Mystic...we took the option to eat in the Saloon section downstairs. You can still order off of the main dining room menu, but also get the choice to order from the saloon menu (a bit less expensive)...plus we were dressed for more of a saloon atmosphere. Great food and service - and we struck up a conversation with some locals who said we stumbled upon the best place in Mystic (scored high on Yelp as well).

Ahleshia: Times Square is a must for no one who has ever been there. Depending upon how long you will be in NYC a Broadway Matinee can be a great experience. I would recommend "Wicked" for a great family show or "Le Mis" or "Phantom of the Opera". If you like Italian food I suggest Rossini's Restaurant for lunch or dinner. You can walk there from the theatre district. A little expensive but the food is fantastic. rossinisrestaurant.com. Always Statue of Liberty and the museums.

I forgot. Best breakfast and lunch in Middletown RI is Atlantic Grill. Have been going there for many years since two of my Daughters attended St. George's School up the hill.. A long time local hangout but now becoming popular with tourists. antlanticgrille.com.

forget all those places. Only place you really need to visit in NY is the Shake Shack. Nuff said lol.
