VMI Financial Aid problems....

Sorry VMI82, your situation did suck, but I disagree that I was whining. I am grateful for the money and opportunities I do have, and this thread was to serve as more of a warning to future kids who could be in my situation. I think it has served it's purpose...... But honestly, to scold me for posting about my situation but then to go on and post your own story is a bit of a contradiction, isn't it?

And to say I'm "running my yap" about VMI is simply libel. This forum's purpose is to provide information to others, correct? I'd say I can be a good resource to other kids who are still in high school considering ROTC/VMI because I've walked the path, and know how the process works. If you don't want me to post, that's fine and dandy, but I'm going to continue to do so. I think most others will agree that 99% of what I post is helpful to others and accurate, and I learn from the 1% that is not.

Again, let's stick to the purpose of this thread instead of getting off track making accusations about an 18 year old being a whiner:

Colleges can and will make adjustments to financial aid packages when they learn of other scholarships.

hmm, on careful re-reading of what I posted I said "I did not run my yap". I refer only to myself.

And my response is, like you say you do, meant to inform anyone that follows. And my message to them is:

VMI, nor anyone else, owes you or me anything. We, none of us, are entitled to anything. VMI clearly discloses that it would change its Financial Aid based on confirmation of ROTC … everyone in financial aid made that patently clear every time they talked with us.

We don't have to like Facts. We just have to live with them.

As a Cadet, and potential future Officer, you must ALWAYS have a Plan B. You will learn, in life, that RARELY do things work as planned. That is life. That is VMI. Suck it up.

Work your tail off for Plan A. Always have Plan B. And when Plan b goes to **** … improvise, adapt and come up with Plans C, D, E … until you get the desired result.

I have zero interest in whether you can continue to post or no … I just think most of what you post comes from a perspective of zero experience of the place and true knowledge of what you speak. Others like, dislike, agree or not as they choose.

But as an Alum with a DD incoming I have read your posts and do now what I did then as a FCP … call "BS!"

I will no longer comment on your postings as my strong suspicion is the Institute will inform you, over this next year, whether your opinions and insights are accurate or not.

The odd thing is … while I do not like your 'cool-breeze' posts I was trying to warn you and help you from running into the wall you most likely will hit with your attitude.

I believe, with all my heart, you will experience profound difficulties if you walk through Jackson Arch with the internal belief that you know more about this place than most.

I strongly suggest you adopt a more humble, introspective demeanor so you do not draw undue attention.

Or … and I am chuckling as I type this … you can tell your Cadre they are "libeling" you.

With all my heart, sincerity and desire I pray you find your way through the gauntlet that VMI is with a minimum of strife, pain and stress.

Good luck.
