And BTW Congratulations to the Class of 2013 which is having their Ring Figure Ball this weekend and especially to the son of my oldest VMI Friend, who is currently incommunicado but who is undoubtedly proud of his son today!

The Ratline awaits you! My DS can't wait to escape the Ratline tomorrow at the close of academy duty.

Congrats to all!! Very exciting time and you couldn't have chosen a better place. Certainly a challenge but worthwhile ;)

Pennack, my DS is ready to head home too---almost holding his breath until CAD tomorrow and then heading out of Roanoke to come home early Wednesday morning!

CAD at 1400 Tuesday for my DS. I am picking him up in front of the PX at 1401 and we'll be off Post by 1402. Yeah, he can't wait. Don't anyone kid you, the Ratline is tough. My DS got a visit to the RDC and a 30 minute sweat party for putting his hay down 7 minutes before taps.....

Congrats to all who have received the appointment thus far! My very best wishes to all the families with RATS - they will really enjoy and appreciate this thanksgiving! My cadet enjoyed his ring figure and got a treat with his early homecoming - he took a couple of academic days (did bring work home but is sleeping in his bed). I can say that even still as a 2nd - they really look forward to coming home, sleeping in their bed, taking a shower, and home cooked food!
This is great injection to get the RATS to xmas break - their first semester completed! Time does fly by.....
again, congrats and may you all be blessed with a wonderful thanksgiving!

As the "Rush" people would say: "Mega Dittos"! Seriously: congratulations to all of you on your acceptances.:thumb: And for those who have not yet heard- Don't despair- it is still early in the process and VMI practices rolling admissions. Hope and time are still on your side!

And again- Congrats to all of those ecstatic members of the class of 2013 who are now sporting that huge chunk of gold on their ring fingers (as the saying at West Point goes: "that Crass Mass of Brass and Glass!"),( And congrats to all those Mom's & dad's who have suffered from afar as they labored to this point in their cadetship:rolleyes:). Only one major milestone remains on your VMI journey- Graduation:eek:. That will be upon all of you before you can even blink!

And my First Classman son surprised me yesterday with a call yesterday afternoon looking for a ride home from the parking lot of a nearbye restaurant where one of his buddies had dropped him off. They took a couple of First class days, left right after the Rat 20 mile Road march, spent the night in Richmond, took off at 0300 and got to Massachusetts by around 1230- so it will be a great Thanksgiving all around!

Yes it is :thumb: My Rat has assumed his position on the recliner for a nap after doing a quick visit back to HS today to see some of his favorite teachers and a few friends. He just wants a quiet place, some good food and no wool touching his body for a few days. Congratulations to all who have heard thus far.

And don't forget the 12 hour nights of sleep and an ever so brief return to the Xbox/PS3!

Congratulations on your appointments! I can still see the expression on my son's face when he got the big envelope, just about two years ago. And congratulations to this year's Rats - you're getting close to the home stretch! Happy Thanksgiving to all - enjoy your time home together.

:thumb: Life is about to become very different for all of you all. Thus far my Rat has changed a great deal for the better. Although he complains some he is very loyal to his BR's and VMI, and admittedly he doesn't complain nearly as much as I thought he would. As much as he hates some of the things he is going through and is struggling a little in Calc and History he can't imagine being anywhere else. He is actually looking forward to getting back and getting through finals. They think in terms of getting though the Rat line in increments, and with each goal reached they become more confident. He still doesn't even think about Break out because it is too far away in his mind. The physical part was a slight struggle in the beginning but the worst for DS was figuring out how to handle all the responsibilities. He was very Dyke dependent for a while but he has been blessed with a great first class-man that has helped him along the way. I can't however stress the importance of STP for DS. If he hadn't gone there he may be in serious academic trouble at this point, plus the friendships he established while there has helped him "NOT QUIT" when he wanted to. He and his closest BR that he met at STP have a pact that neither will break. It is an amazing school and although not perfect I believe it is worth every dime and DS believes it will be the hardest yet the best 4 years of his life. After spending a few days with his former HS friends he can see the difference in people and it confirms in him why he chose VMI.

Thanks for some invaluable insight! My DS at first was determined to do STP, but now he's kind of wavering, so this might help (not that I want him to be gone!). :thumb:
