Norwich will pay room and board if you have a ROTC scholarship.

My son is currently a 4th at VMI and very happy. It is not an easy school, academically, physically or in any way. He believes it is worth it. As a parent I cannot say enough good things about VMI. I have no knowledge of Norwich first hand. Feel free to ask me any questions or PM if I can help.
 
DS just got his TWE email from USNA. Now that the USNA option is out, it's decision time for plan B - VMI or Norwich. He definitely wants a SMC so has ruled out the other schools he was accepted to.
 
Falcon A, thanks for the advice. DS has been to Norwich. Trying to figure out how and when we can get him to VMI. It's a 10 hr drive and he is into baseball season now, so not much room in the schedule. He/we always knew USNA was not a given, but until he got the TWE yesterday I think that was where his head was. I think part of it was keeping up with his sister, USNA Plebe. Anyway, we are going to give him a day or two to process the USNA TWE and then get him into decision mode on which school is right for him.

He knows he has a great plan B and is fortunate to have the ROTC scholarship. Same end result in 4 years, just a different path.

IMHO VMI is very "SA-like" with every student in the Corps, all wear uniforms to class, morning formation to raise the flag then March to breakfast, evening formation and march to supper, etc.

VMI graduation is 16 May. It would be good if you can visit VMI before the end of April while cadets are still there and going to class. Last day of classes is 4 May then final exams thru 11 May. New Market parade is 15 May (very big deal) then graduation on 16 May. Going later I don't think you and he will a good feel for the school. You might call admissions, let them know the choice you are trying to make and they might be able to arrange for you see a class being taught in a classroom. You might also be able to catch a VMI baseball game. They have home games Apr 19 and Apr 22-24. Best wishes.
