Hmmm. Probably sounds a bit weird but here goes....

I am not a parent. I am not a former cadet. I have no affiliation with the USAFA. About 16 years ago, I met a young man 1 week before he left for BCT. Soon after and for about 5-6 years, every year I found a young person and sort of "sponsored" them during BCT and a bit after. I remain in contact with 2 to this day.

I think it is GREAT that these young people have such passion for this experience and KNOW already at such a young age what they want and GO FOR IT! YEA!

If anyone of you who are about the embark on this great adventure don't think you will get enough letters (for some reason) or know of a Basic who will need a letter writer (so that they can get some mail), I humbly apply to write and send words of encouragement and positive quotes. I promise NOT to incite extra training from the cadre (unless of course you are up for that and I DO encourage a bit of that if only to have a memorable experience). Take care and let me know through a private message on this board. Good luck.

Believe it or not, during the BCT for the 2016 class, WebGuy asked for some volunteers to write to cadets who were not getting any snail mail. I couldn't believe it, and my wife and I immediately got on that and snailed mailed those two cadets throughout BCT.

I am willing to write letters as well. I remember being in bootcamp many years ago, and for some reason or other, my family did not write many letters. It certainly would have been nice to get an extra letter or two, especially on those days when I was wondering what the heck of a mess I got myself into and why in the world did I do it :) PM me and I will take on the pleasure of offering some encouragement.

Since he is my youngest I am about to have a lot of time on my hands and am awaiting any word of any cadet that needs snail mail. :) I would be happy to send along encouragement. :)

If you get wind of anyone who isn't getting mail and is too proud/shy/whatever to post here, let us know. I'm joining the people who are willing to write. And to you as well if you like. You've been great in these forums.

Not sure how to private message anybody. I could use help getting letters to my DS if anyone is willing. Not sure I can write 42 letters in 42 days. :)

You'd be surprised what helps. I think mostly they want CONTACT and something positive and uplifting. Jokes are welcome because some Cadre will sort of reward or lighten the mood with jokes. Positive quotes are always welcome. Google stuff, copy past and send. Voila!

Well, I have now 7 Basics to write to (I've already dashed off a couple to arrive by the 25th). All girls! Interesting! So excited for you all. I will be thinking of you on the 25th as you go through Inprocessing. Good Luck. Beat Army, Sink Navy...Go Air Force.

I'm here to dash all hopes! Haha!
I don't believe you'll be able to get your mail until the 3rd or 4th day there. Highly unlikely you'll be taken to get mail on I-day.

... I feel so mean, but I didn't want anyone to get their hopes up only to have them dashed when they can't get mail that first day.
