Does the Academy have a wait list?

As to whether or not they notify you if you've been wait listed is a mystery to me. Someone else might be able to shed some light on this.

i found a thread that has some info on the waitlist...USNA Class of 2017 Wait List Thread....there was actually a kid who got called from it last year and turned it down...

Our DS was on the NWL in 2011. He had an appointment to USMA in hand since early Feb., but USNA was his #1 choice. He waited and waited and in early May started preparing for Westpoint. On May 15, he was notified that USNA was offering him an appointment. A day to remember! Every year the numbers vary as to how many will get called from the Wait List. As a wise captain in the Navy told my son, if God has called you, He'll equip you. The direction our candidates take is in His hands.
 
There has been a WL for the last ~10 years. Some years no one comes off the WL and other times some candidates do. The number is entirely dependent on the appointment actual "yield" vs. expected yield.
