wait list

Okay, had an interesting conversation with USAFA admissions today. I called because I was curious about when "rejected" candidates would receive their TWE from USAFA. Well, other than the fact that my son will not get any communication from USAFA (even though he is a candidate and they went through the trouble of granting him a medical waiver...), the admissions officer told me that the "class is full." He basically said that, of the appointments they have offered, enough have been admitted to "fill the class." If you are on the wait list or still waiting. I would recommend you call USAFA admissions and verify the info. I got today. May 1st is fast approaching and if they don't intend to notify all candidates one way or the other...then it might be worth your while. Good luck to all of you outstanding young men and women.

Granny, according to what pmlutton was told when she called admissions last week (quoted above), apparently some candidates are not going to be notified that they have not been accepted. From what I have read on this forum, it appears AFA is sending out appointments, waitlist letters, and prep/foundation letters. It looks like if you don't fall into those categories, you are not going to recieve any communication from them. After all the effort EVERY candidate puts into this process, I think they all at least deserve something in writing telling them they didn't make it. I would urge you to call admissions on Monday morning and find out your son's status for sure.

I received a Falcon Foundation scholarship, but I think that not sending rejection letters is ridiculous. After all the time that candidates have put into this process, they at least deserve a tangible decision. Some candidates may still be waiting thinking...well I didn't get a rejection letter...maybe I'll just wait for my acceptance letter. Bad idea USAFA.

would it hurt them to send out at the very least an e-mail informing us instead of just making some of us agonize even longer?

The class of 2012 is the LARGEST class to date entering the air force academy. (At least I'm about 99.999% sure. That's what was told to me a couple months ago by the commandant.). I will be off by a couple, but on "I" day, there was right around 1385 entering BCT. History shows that there's normally 85-100 that will drop out; get injured/sick; or simply can't make it through BCT. This past year (Class of 2012); only approximately 45 didn't make it through BCT. This year's class poises to be a larger class yet.

I have no idea how accurate my info is, but some of the cadets I spoke to during orientation said that class of 2013 will be smaller because of the limited room available in the dorms (the renovations have fourth and third class cadets stuck with three people in a room).
