Here is what CGO is saying to BGOs (to tell their students) about the wait lists: "We are still processing the USNA and NAPS wait lists. The latest they will be notified is mid June for USNA and mid July for NAPS." CGO is not sure how much movement there will be in either list but "for now there is still a chance."

THANKS USNA1985

we're here, keeping hope alive for 2013

My GUESS -- and it's only that -- is that movement on the lists, if any, will come because someone becomes medically DQ'ed, has a serious legal issue uncovered in the police check, changes his/her mind in the next couple of weeks, etc. IOW, the class is full but for an odd happeneing. However, I stress that this is ONLY MY GUESS. It is NOT official, NOT based on anything I've heard, etc.

I don't remember this log jamb last year. Is this really abnormal USNA1985?
Do you think the class might end up being short making people wait this extraordinary amount of time? I'm sure this will ripple throughout all of the SA numbers too.

I have no inside info, sorry. I can only guess that USNA has basically filled its class. As with all schools, USNA makes offers of appointment knowing that, on average, a certain number will be turned down. I, for example, had three students who declined their appointments this year. If more than expected turn down the appointments, USNA will use the wait list to fill the class. If the number of turndowns is at or less than expected, there isn't likely to be much movement on the wait list.

Given that turndowns were due to USNA on May 1, it stands to reason that the only openings will be for those from the waitlist offered slots who turn them down or people who originally accepted but, for various reasons, can't or don't want to attend at the last minute. Typically, there are very few of these.

These numbers can vary from year to year based on a myriad of circumstances. Thus, one year can see quite a few folks taken from the wait list and the next year there may be zero.

Again, the above reflects only my view. It IS NOT and SHOULD NOT be considered official USNA policy.

There was a message from our Congressman's office on the answering machine congratulating my son on his appointment to the Naval Academy. He got home too late to call back but will first thing tomorrow morning. We were all accepting the idea that he would be at a university just an hour and a half from home. While I'm incredibly proud that it looks as though his dream will become reality I'm having a tough time knowing that in three weeks he will be on the opposite side of the country.

Congratulations! That"s great to hear.

Its good to know that there is some movement. We heard from our BGO last week that there was still hope.
So maybe this is the week.

@ momoffour: congrats!!! That message must have made your head spin, what an abrupt change in your son's future!

What happens if more people accept their appointments than the slots availible since they give more appointments than slots? I know it probably hasn't happened but if it did, what would be done?

MomofFour, I am so happy for you and your son. His selection is both an honor and a blessing. If you haven't already, I recommend that you conduct a search on the internet for "USNA Parents Club of (State that your in). Each state's parents club has information on pre-I Day events. For example, our state had a picnic for the Plebes to be, and there is also a luncheon and a meet and greet with the Govenor.
