My daughter is devastated (she cried her eyes out last night-:frown:)that she got waitlisted for her number one school choice. She so wanted to go to North Georgia. It was by and far her number one choice by a mile. Does anyone know how many applicants are offered admission from the waitlist? Also, if she got waitlisted at North Georgia is it worth it to apply to the Citadel and Norwich?

I'm sorry your daughter's heart hurts, hathcoam. Fall of 2013, did I read that correctly? If so, she has a whole academic year as a senior in HS or a college student to go. That's a long time to get excellent grades, keep up the ECAs, perhaps take the SAT/ACT again, keep taking college courses as you mentioned in an earlier post. Once the school year starts and the NGSCU admissions folks are sane again  have your daughter give admissions a call and find out what specifically she can do to strengthen her application.

Second part of your question: ALWAYS have a plan B and a plan C. If your daughter wants a commission, and/or wants to attend an SMC, then YES apply to The Citadel, Norwich (VMI, TAMU, VaTech, and so on). Even if (when) she's admitted to NGCSU have a plan B. To the extent your family budget allows, plan on some campus visits too.

Keep us posted.

Thanks guys. Yup its fall of 2013. Thats why we were surprised at the waitlisting. After speaking with admissions, she found out that North Georgia goes by a freshman index to give automatic admission. The freshman index is just gpa and ACT or SAT scores put into this mathematical formula. Initial admission takes no other criteria (ECs, recommendations, courseload, etc)into account. My daughters gpa was low (2.8) but she scored decent on the ACT (24). You had to have a 2500+ freshman index to automatically get in. She had a 2460 hence the waitlist. Apparently, they will check their acceptance numbers in December and if they dont have enough then they will lower the freshman index number and my daughter will get her acceptance letter. if they dont lower it in dec then their board looks at the remaining students under 2500 and considers their whole person score (according to the Lt Col at NGSU my daughter has a phenomenal whole person score).
She has already been accepted at Liberty and has applied to lander and Campbell but she really wants to go to a SMC. She said Norwich is too far and the 3 other SMC's dont have her major. She said she may consider the citadel but she is afraid of the hazing..

What about Georgia Military College for a year in case she needs to reapply to North Georgia next year?

I probably should've mentioned this yesterday, but....
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets isn't all that far away and not as scary as the Citadel. (That's where Hokie comes from after all. VT is a great place to go to school.)

I would also recommend a prep military school, like NMMI, or Valley Forge. NMMI was my plan B incase I didnt get accepted to Norwich Or Texas A&M. Then I would transfer from there

Best of luck :thumb:

As LongAgoPlebe said, there is still plenty of time to bring the score up across that 2500 threshold. Retake the SAT and ACT while exploring the other alternatives mentioned. And as someone else said, CAReful is a great school with a terrific Corps of Cadets. My DS did an overnight there and loved it but decided an SMC was not for him. Definitely would be worth a visit.

Hokie-she has been getting a lot of mail from Virginia Tech but they dont have her major. Ok now I am wondering what a prep school is?

I think he just means a military junior college like New Mexico, Georgia, Valley Forge, Marion, etc.

What major is she interested in? Gotta be really arcane if North Georgia has it but a big place like VA Tech doesn't!

My thoughts as wel but here is what was posted a while back.

My daughter is a junior in hs and we are getting ready to visit North georgia. Any thoughts on the school? She was scared of the Citadel. She really wants to get her degree in Criminology and enter the military police.

Then he's talking about the military high schools.
There's a bunch of them.
"College Prep"
Plus some of them take "post-grads"; students who need more work before they can enter college.

Its funny because three of the SMC's have her major or something similar(Criminology, Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice admin) and three dont. The Citadel, North Georgia and Norwich have it but Texas A and M, VMI and Virginia Tech dont. Her gpa should come up a bit this year. She just finished taking summer school-she did a elective class in computers and an elective forensic science class. She finished with a 99 in computers and 92 in forensics. We worked hard to get a senior schedule that balanced what she needed for college(she only needs 2 courses for hs graduation so her schedule is based on what she needs for college entrance) and what she wanted. She ended up with:

AP Biology(she wanted)

Prob and Stats College Prep(has 5 math credits already-only needs 3 to graduate but colleges want upper level math your senior yr)

Government and Economics(HS graduation requirement)

Law Education (thought this would tie in well with her college major)

Occupational Intern for Library(she wanted)

AP English Literature

Band

Sociology College Prep(she wanted and good tie in for her college major)

Mandarin Chinese (she wanted)

Just posted a pic of DS at FROG Week

Just posted a pic of DS at FROG Week in the ROTC pics section.

My son was also waitlisted for North Georgia. He applied to the Citadel as a long shot and just received his acceptance letter!! So excited, but certainly expected it to be the other way around

patiently waiting whether or not I was waitlisted to NG.. My application is "under review" currently. Definitely a little nervous... judging by what other people posted as their stats, and were waitlisted.

I already recieved my reacceptence to Norwich
