Hi all;
Since I last posted, my DS got DQ'd, then a week later waivered by USNA, but so far, still DQ'd for NROTC . I was under the impression that it was more difficult to obtain a USNA waiver than NROTC. Has anyone ever experienced this is the past?

Congrats on the waiver! I wish I could answer your question. Would you mind telling me what all you did to receive a waiver so quickly? I am DQ'd as well but for something I don't have anymore.... Hope someone can offer you some insight!

Did you receive your acceptance for NROTC? The reason I ask is that DS' NROTC application is complete and waiting for review but it is not in his DODMERB Portal. Does it only show up once you receive acceptance? Also, did you receive an LOA? Waiver happened quickly. I thought there was no movement on waivers unless LOA or after nominations.

@fifi5 - incorrect. Work on waivers proceeds for folks they deem competitive. Some get approved quickly and some take much longer. It's case by case as no two health situations are alike.

@hopeful1998 - I'm not sure NROTC is any easier than USNA. In fact I doubt they proceed with waivers until they've decided to grant a scholarship. In any case it's up to the commissioning source. I've seen folks get waivers for USNA and not for NROTC. I've seen folks get waivers for NROTC and not for USNA.

Acceptance on NROTC, no LOA at USNA. We were expecting 3-4 month wait. We were shocked. DS was DQ'd for a femoral ball fracture in 7th grade. The remedial orthopedist (private hire) wrote very vague and conflicting medical notes, but then at the same time, cleared him for all activity (??). Clearly private doc didn't address what Dodmerb was looking for. We think this is why he was DQ'd. Words of advice, use the doctors Dodmerb gives you - the private docs don't always address what Dodmerb needs to hear.

Thank you, admissions counselor said "when in line for an apppointment, USNA will start waiver process" I read that as after nominations. I have read that some have already had nomination interviews in their states. Ours do not be begin until November (Cali) so waivers looked at after noms. Thanks for clarifying.

DS was DQ'd and received USNA waiver in October 2014, before receiving a nomination. He did not receive NROTC waiver until October 2015, AFTER he completed O-week at his unit. He was awarded the NROTC scholarship in January 2015, if I remember right. We never figure out why the waiver took so long -- were just glad to have it!
