I have looked, but haven't seen anything regarding being underweight. My son, being so young, is on thin side, and according to the Air force requirements would be a few pounds shy of minimum, although hes ok for the other services. Do they give a waiver for this fairly easily? Seems to me its fairly obvious he won't be so thin for long, just a matter of body weight matching up to growth and at his age (17) its not all that uncommon. I guess what I want to know is, how much of an issue is this.

Unless there's a medical condition associated with underweight or overweight, weight, in and of itself, is NOT a DoDMERB (medical) issue. Those questions should be directed to Service Academy Admissions offices and/or ROTC scholarship offices:thumb:

Why would DODMERB have a DQ code (D181.10 - Weight exceeding standards) if they did not have a standard to meet?

That code is a soft code that is used to notify Academies and ROTC programs when a person's Ht/Wt does not meet that Service screening standards. The Academies and ROTC programs then follow-up how they see fit. Overweight/underweight, when there is no associated medical conditions, are administrative issues.:thumb:

Gotcha, each academy has their own definition of "overweight" or each one must use a different calculation of Body Fat Percentage as their admission standard.

Thanks.
