I am going to be leaving soon for an overnight visit at West point. I know I will stay with a first year cadet and will shadow him, but will I do the physical training that he has to do throughout the day? What should I expect?

West Point Overnight Visit

Hey! :)

I went for my overnight visit on March 27th. Basically, you will experience the life of a cadet for the whole day and night. You will go to all his classes with him. You will have study time with him. You will go to his clubs and sports with him. You will eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner with him. You will stand in formation with him. You will basically live as if YOU are the cadet. It was a wonderful experience for me and it will really give you a great understanding of what plebe year will be like for you.

As for the physical training part of it, My cadet gave me a choice whether or not I wanted to wake up with her and do PT at 5am. It was a no brainer for me. I woke up at 5am and went into Arvin Gym to workout with her. I also tried the IOCT (Indoor Obstacle Course Test) as well.

Most of the cadets were really welcoming and friendly. I think you'll enjoy your time up there :thumb:

Thank you!!! :) I wasn't sure if the plebe I'll be with would get up and go do some pt with everyone else or what, and if I'd be having to run 4 or 5 miles. But that helps a lot!!

My cc's host is on the Sandhurst team, so my son worked out/hiked with them that day. It should be a great time for you! Just remember to take their ribbing with a grain of salt -- it's a hard time of year to be a plebe in gray, Upstate NY! Everyone feels more positively about things when the weather turns nice and plebe year is almost through.
