My son was just informed that he will receive the West Point Leadership Award. He is a junior in high school and is in the process of applying to USMA. Is anyone familiar with the award? How much will it help his application for acceptance?

Congratulations!
Was this awarded by your local West Point society in conjunction with Founder's Day?

Just winning this award indicates your son is probably an excellent candidate for West Point. Make sure he sends in a copy with his file. He should also include a copy in his nomination applications.

We have no further information. He was informed by his guidance counselor and principal on Friday. How does he keep updating his file with Admissions. Letter, E-mai?

I guess he will be presented with it during an award assembly then.
It's odd they would tell him in advance.
West Point Societies from the Association of Graduates, will look for and present the West Point Leadership award to a high school junior that typically presents a high level of academics/leadership/athletics and citizenship. All qualities that West Point is looking for in a future cadet.
It's a way of the Alumni and friends of West Point to honor West Point ideals and encourage students to apply.

He can send in a copy of his certificate to his admissions Regional Commander. There is no rush on this - anytime this summer is fine.
